With Anayla throwing off her moderator cap in disgust, this leaves Sijun with absolutely NO MODERATION.

I completely understand Anayla's descision and support it.

Now we have to figure out how to police this place until Dhabih pops his head out from his bunker and helps us get his place on track.

SO.

Let's have interim moderator nominations.

Of course, everyone should do their best to help stem flaming, and warn people politely if they're posting in the wrong thread... but we need 5 or 6 people who will be recognized for their authority. This might not work, since they would not be able to close or move threads, but we have to try something.

Once elected, interim moderators will add a little tag to their signature.

Elections will work as follows:

Once a person is nominated, they will need 5 "seconds" to be considered for the post.

Since Enayla is the stepping down moderator, and has a good head on her shoulders, I think she would be the best choice as the one who chooses among the elligeable candidates. If she doesn't want to do this, for fear of continued e-mail bashing, I for one understand. I guess I, or (preferably) a senior member of the board in good standing will do it.

[edit, maybe Faust woud be a good choice to pick the mods after all.]

Anyway, have at it, and we'll see how it goes.

Superbug: I don't find it amusing at all. It pisses me off that I find myself doing this. Do you see anyone else here taking positive action? It saddens me that Dhabih is AWOL. This place is getting out of hand and I don't see anyone doing anything constructive, just complaining.
I want to be a part of a forum that is not controlled by the 2000+ highschool kids here. If this place does not shape up soon, I will leave. I have better things to do with my time, I am just in the right mood this week to try and give this place a good kick in the ass to help get it back on track.

As for the seconds, I mean votes, not time.

I'm in firm opposition to this.

1) How the hell are we going to enforce actual moderation? Dhab (the admin) is the only one who can give people certain powers, including the ability to move or close threads. These interim moderators would have no more power than someone going and posting "stop flaming!!", and that's basically would they would be doing.

2) This isn't our board, and I don't think we should just be picking moderators willy-nilly.

3) You haven't set any standing criteria for someone to be eligible for voting, much less election. How will we sort this all out?

4) This would be seen as the same sort of Lumental elitism that everybody spurns so much. "Hey, I'm a fake moderator, so shut up!"

5) This is a bad, bad idea. Too many moderators, and you get conflicting issues, views, whatever. It starts fights, splits us up into factions, and would certainly spell the end for the forum.

With all that in mind, I nominate myself on the following grounds:

A) It was never said one could not nominate oneself.

B) I have experience being a mod at boards (I was mod for the bbs at my middle and high school)

C) I have proper training as a Presiding Officer in Congress, with an average rating of 11. I was P.O. at State competitions, and am well versed in Robert's Rules of Order. I know how to deal with nonsense, and I know how to keep the peace.

D) I've been here just as long as anyone here, and I've built myself a small deal of respect in that time. People who know me know I'm not one to subjective, I'm fair, and intelligent.

E) I had a full 5 star member rating until my friend pulled an unfortunate prank. I've been known to offer helpful advice in all walks of life, including art, where I've had self-instruction for my entire life, and professional instruction for years.

F) I spend a great deal of time here, reading nearly every thread, and responding accordingly.

Well, Impaler, I second you. You seem to have your head screwed on right.

i agree that this is a half assed solution, but keep in mind that it's a reaction to a no-assed situation.

Also, it's a proposition. If you, and other senior board members think it's a bad idea, then it is. You guys should have final say, as you have been here the longest.

As the only visible active moderator, I really think this is up to Enayla right now though, unles Sumaleth or Dhabih also have something to say...

We've had our differences in the past, and he surely has a legion of haters here... but I've seen him in action on other boards. He's both fair and strict, and he doesn't mess about or hessitate for a second when action needs to be taken.

I don�t think this idea is too good, as Impaler said, this would be like "fake" moderators hitting people who don�t behave with a club out of foam-material.

we could start another forum, call it Sijun 2 or something, then we all move over there and faustgfx and Impaler (they both have my vote) could be the cruel hairtrigger mods we need.

my board is in my signature. everyone is welcome, but i DO moderate the place with a hitlerian iron fist... actually, it has been alive for over 4 months, and there have been VERY few disturbances in the force.

it is not a sijun 2, there are artists and designers of severely different backgrounds, styles and whatnot, there, and the art section isn't the main focus of the board, but it is going on strong and there are basically, among other people, my favorites from sijun already there.. werd.

incidentally enough, Linda is a moderator on my board as well..

but yeah. it is not a "hay you're from sijun fuck you!" mentality place, we're all friends there. werd.

Ok, I agree that this is not a great solution, but it's better than nothing. the flaming here is getting really out of hand.

Call me an optimist, but i think this would help, even if just a little.

As for Jussi, there is a bit of a catch 22... Jussi's a loveable smart ass, and people tend to react to him by flaming him. He would probably be an AWESOME real-life morerator, but as a cop with no gun, I don't think he would be able to calm people down, just because of his devilish reputation. I think this informal style moderation would get more flames than if he didn't juimp in in the first place.

I think we're looking for people who can "Stare people down" without illiciting a response.

(That being said, when Dhabih gets around to picking **real** new moderators, I really hope Faust will be one of them.)

this is extremely interesting actually. i don't mean to sound like a butthole, but in a way i am totally amused to observe how slowly social structures appear, some characters step up to be the leader type (redleader, jussi, a.s.o.), others follow... a cutie is playing the main female part (enayla) and there even are villains (flamers and such)in this situation of emergency. well, this certainly proves all those supposedly cliche hollywood catastrophy-plot character types actually have been correct all along!
