Well.. it's your choice but..
I was in a military unit in my country that has the same duties as the marines have in the US (except that they are not sea but land based because we don't have a shore). I hated it.
It was really dumb. On one day my group alone shot 20.000$ worth of anti personell and anti-tank grenades to practice targets, just to keep the money flowing to the army and not because we had to use so many grenades.
I have to admit to some degree it was interresting.. snow combat, urban warfare (running around in a city, storming houses and using ropes to jump from the roof into a building etc.), wood combat, trap building and so on.
But most of the time i just hated it.
And its not my philosophy either, I had to go there.
Well good luck.
Can you end your duty now before 20 years of service? I hope you can.
P.S. 2 Years ago in an international military contest our unit was better that the us marines unit, yeah! |

Ever since i was five i have wanted to be marine i want to be a sniper to be exact and i could green burae shit i dont even know how to spell it but you guys know what i am trying to say right and a navy seal and i want to work for the covernment...
One must first be stiped of clean.
Freed from all false notions of self
Unhappines does not arise from the way things are, but rather from a diffrence in the way things are and the way we belive they should be
Comfort is an illusion, a false security bred from familiar ways. Ir narrows the mind, weakens the body and robs the sould of spirit and determination comfort is neither welcomed nor tolerated in the marines...
You with in yourself
has no one else to rely on
and when the self is exhausted
No one to lift you up
once you have walked to through fire and survived what else can burn...
word fromt the marines... |

I'm sorry and I don't want to be unpolite but I think you watched too many american movies. The quotes you posted there are these classical "flush everything you knew before down the toilet, we know better"
If thats what you think, then go on and do what you have to do.
Some of my friends were snipers in the army.
I don't think I have to tell you this, I guess you already know.. just for info:
I guess you go running for at least 20 kilometers with light gear regulary?
The better you condition, the better your aim after exaustion.
You don't have problems with lying around in a pond of water with moskito's all over your face and arms without moving for hours? (I did it.. you go slowly crazy in this situation).
Not to mention you have to be good at shooting.
I guess all this does not get to you and you will go there anyway.

Independent thought is rarely supported in the military. And why should it? If everyone has their own ideas on how to fight a war, you might as well give up...
Just wonder if you xyz have any previous knowledge of military life? I hope you've gone through basic traning of sorts, because otherwise you'll be in a world of hurt if you realize that obeying orders is not for you...

xyz: I'd rather see some independent thought.
In any case, you should ask yourself if you want to work for your government or for your people. If it's the former, hey, you're on the right path... If not, well, you know.

There shouldnt be independant thought in the military, if you become a soldier or whatever you are simply a pawn instructed to do whatever the wiser people ( captain's or commanders ) arn't prepared to do. When you become a part of the military for the ammount of time you are talking about, you are no longer an individual but a statistic. After your 20 years your either end up dead or alone with underdeveloped social skills.
Your choice! |

I have a buddy who is a sniper in the marines. He and two of his other sniper buddies were in a movie I made. They played rednecks who go out and hunt disco guys. Classic cinema if ever there was.
