I'm still not sure if illustrator is the future for me, but I am starting to get the hang of it now...

Did this in class just to get the hang of using the pen tool and making the shapes/outlines.

Yeah, illustrator is kind of a pain, but this was in class assignment for illustrator.. It's a 2d Animation class for illustrator and flash MX class.

mabye you could add some different weight to the lines, it looks kinda flat now. Usually i make a copy of the color/fill work, set it to black or whatever the colour you would like the outline to be, and then i arrange the black to the background and scale the black untill i get the right bold, tight outlines.

like to see the anmation when its finished.
good luck

Yeah, I'm still messing with the 'stroke' weight, the shapes are all filled with black stroke so i don't know if I can seperate them unless I make a copy and take out all the fills.

Right?

Was going to just use brush thats got a small angle to it to add a little width to certain angles to add some weight to it, any suggestions welcome, I got until next week to turn this one in..

If you have a tablet, try using the brush tool with a calligraphic brush & pressure sensitive stroke width, it's lovely.

I tend to keep stroke and colour totally separate, do the strokes first (usually with a sketch for guidance) and then do the colour on a layer below. It's a bit of work to make the colour conform to the strokes but with a combination of the pen and the pencil tools it can be done pretty quick.

I use illustrator, never got my head round freehand. illustrator is laid out so similarly to photoshop that it's very easy to learn. I've heard good things about freehand though, just never felt the need to really try and learn it since illusrtrator does everything I want it to.

yeah since V9 illustrators pallets have become more like PS, but back in the days of v3 it was a pain in the butt compaired to Freehand, so the easiest package back in 91 was Freehand
