last Christmas I got a fancy wooden box with a beautiful wood pen with brass nibs. I played with it for a while but eventually thought I was too fancy and put it on my shelf.
BUT! It somehow made it's way out, i was using it to draw the Narnia stuff (of which I still have stuff to scan), and fell deeply, deeply in love with it. I bought some nice ink, and I've been going banana's with this thing. It kinda sucks though, cause it's not portable (can't REALLY go carrying ink and pens around with my sketchbook). Anyway, here are some of the drawings I've been doing with them. The power over line is amazing, I never knew there could be so much...so much control *sniff*

in this one, that's a nazi on your right, and he's saying 'Ya. Hello. Mei Name is Igon Vonhinterburg. Can ei com live vith you?'

jeez it's 2:30 in the morning...

Matt I just have to ask. Do you just spend day upon day creating costumes? Or do you just go with what comes to you at the time? Everytime I look at your characters you have such an elaborate scale of atire for them. Would love to see a thread just dedicated to costume design from you.

Pen and ink is super-portable, isric. Just remember to put your bottle of ink (I like Winsor Newton) in a resealable sandwich bag in case it spills/leaks, and rinse off your nibs when you're done. Pen nibs will last 25 years if you take proper care of them.

Also, you should try at liquid acrylic. It's a thin acryclic that you can use with pens, although they work best in technical pens.

Awesome work matt...
Can I just ask you how long you went to (I assume you went to) ACAD. And which program there?

Weirdowe- I believe that Matt is in his first year at ACAD. I would assume that he is in the VC program specialization in illustration. I could be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time.

well a big thanks for all the compliments. now for the specifics

Binke- yeah, it's terrible. i didn't even notice it. I generally like to space the eyes out a little, but for some reason I went waaaaay too far and didn't notice until I posted it

Basement bound- it's mostly made up as I go, but I have been known to do a few pages worth of design for bigger projects

f3nce- hmm..excellent, I'll have to try that

Francis- thanks mate, I never even thought about that

criztu- why yes I have

Weirdowe- Basement Bound is correct, I'm starting second year in september, specializing in the Illustration branch of the Visual Communications program.

are the cool random little patterns you've been putting in your work lately based on something? or are the just random designs you pull out of your head? at any rate, the time you seem to be spending studying different types of costumes/clothing really seems to be paying off.

How can I let an Isric post go without saying something?

Thanks for posting those! They're really great.

Matt, what I really like is that the areas of high detail are very selectively placed - it's not just sprayed all over the image.

Much respect.

hi everybody (first post)
isric, i've saved your drawings to my personal collection of artist artwork. the way you put details on costumes is pleasing my eyes (like francis noticed). very easy to distinguish between different pieces of cloth ... have you thaught in creating a comics album ?
i like the work of a french artist - moebius/jean giraud, i think your style (the economy of detail) is close to his. (major grubert-garage hermetique du jerry cornelius)
