Hi, I'm not exactly new here. I didn't get a very warm reception in the past but I thought I'd give it another go. Here's my latest painting:
Do you think this looks professional? Why or why not?

I think it lacks some crispness overall,
some highlights as well, such as on the boots and the bionic arm in particular,
the shoulder blades are probably too marked on the shirt, (unless it was sticky and sweating..)
I m not too fond of the background, it could be little fussy, or undefined, it';s difficult to say if its a flat plane or some large drape with 'camo' type motif on it.
The gun looks more like a scaled up gun than a big gun..
Overall, it lacks 'punch' in color and light/shadow, for examp[le the shadow on the gorund is just a darker shade of the floor, and the skin tones are very similar.
After all that said, it's a good digital painting overall, keep at it !
PS: oh yeah, sorry for being an ass, but I think you got enough praises at your deviant art gallery I hope these crits help, I'm not a 'professional' either, you be the judge.

I think it looks cool.
I am not sure about the background, it is kind of in between. There isn't a feeling of space between her upper body and the background. My advise would be to either to paint a flat background or paint some sort of landscape.
The gun could use some more really white highlights and you could make some of the edges "straight" (it needs to look more heavy and hard)
A few more brighter highlights on the girl probably wouldn't hurt. |

Kinda reminds me of Boris or Julie's stuff. You should check out their stuff more to give you a better idea of how to blow away the imagry you're trying to create. I agree with the crispness thing, and in giving her muscles, you seem to have also drained away her femininity. I'm not railing against her having muscles, I'm just railing against the masculation of muscles females. Again, check out Boris and Julie's Pageto better get a handle on the imagry you're playing with. |
