Hey again all, here's my take on how Obi-Wan Kenobi might look in Episode 3. I had him grabbing his belt just like ol' Alec Guinness did. I felt more confident using photoshop this second time around, but I still have this "I don't know what I'm doing feeling". I think I'll take a photoshop class next semester. Painting with a mouse still sucks, but I don't think I can afford a wacom right now (btw, does anyone know which stores are good places to buy them?)
The hands are kinda unfinished, but I'm not really too concerned about them so I left it like that. The drapes look weird, but I created every fold on the confounded cloak so be gentle :P Maybe I should've copied from a picture, but it would be a little less original and spontaneous so I figured what the heck. Anyway, enough rambling, thanks for looking!

Like it? Hate it? Let me know!

Cool, very well balanced. Anikan reminds me of Pharoh from 'the ten comandments' but that's a good thing, same arrogance factor. |

I absolutely love this.
As said earlier, you've captured the inbetween states very vell, and all the emotions seem represented. From Anakins sorrow/hatred/arrogance, to Kenobi's failure/sadness/determination.....or something
Very nice indeed. It's drawings like these that breethes life back into the saga (even though I loved Ep2)

Wow that is amazing. I love how you've captured his character. The face is brilliant. You really can see both Alec Guiness and Ewan Mcgregor as if they were merged. Did you use any reference for their faces?
As for the photoshop coloring, it looks fine to me. It has a really delicate soft touch to it all. I really like it all! |

Thanks everyone for the kind replies.
Jason: Oh yes, I definitely used reference for the faces. Thanks!

Sorry for reviving this old thread, but here's a particularly amusing response from another forum I posted these at.
Originally posted by "Powerful Jedi":
"Yeah, they are really good. Shame u didn't do them. There isn't anything I don't know about Photoshop. I can even name the filter u used - "Colored pencil".
For those who r not experienced with Photoshop, here goes....
Photoshop is a graphics software that allows u to manipulate imagery, and pretty much anything really. There are a variety of filters (effects), such has a range of different types of blurring, 3D transforms, distortions, etc, etc. Now if any1 ever gets a chance to use Photoshop, they should have a go. It is a great program.
If u go get a chance to use it, here is what to do to fake a drawing.
U can scan a picture or import an image from a digital camera, or even get an image from the internet (internet pictures are only 72dpi ((dots per inch)), which is quite low resolution, so it will not be a very good pic). Next, you go to the filter menu and Artisitic, which is the first on the list. A sub-menu will appear - from this select "colored pencil", which is also the first on the list. Next, a diolgue box will pop up. Here you can change pencil width, stroke pressure and paper brightness. Once u have played about with these settings, u press OK.
There u go, a faked drawing. It's exactly what Chucks did."
Geez what a moron.

That's actually really impressive. I can see both pairs of actors for each of the characters, and that's a fair achievment. |

Wow, he sure knows his stuff, doesn't he?
Anyway, yeah, I know I've commented on these before, but hey - - I absolutely love them, although the anatomy feels a little off on some of them, the faces are gold.
Great job. |

Yoda: Great work! Where is this forum so we can all call "Powerful Jedi" an idiot? |

ehehe, that powerful jedi dude is funny. it's like he forgot you can actually do colored pencils in real life.
and plantman2, what's your problem? learn english, then learn respect, then come back when you have some stuff to show.
finally, yoda! nice stuff man, you have that old star wars style down to a pat. reminds me a lot of the struzan posters. one thing - those white backgrounds are a bit weird, throws off the values. the grey bg in the zam and jawa pics work great.

Thanks folks!
Awetopsy: Yeah I wish! It's a little late for that anyway, but a job in the entertainment industry would be fun after school. Thanks for your compliments!
Raytrace: Thanks alot.
Guyjin: Thanks!
Sumaleth: Glad you like em sumaleth!
Lolion: Point well taken! I'm not extremely comfortable with anatomy just yet. Especially if I have to make them up without reference. Been out of life drawing for too long! Thanks for your kind words.
Plantman: Yeah, I paused my Episode 2 video.
sacrelicious: HAHahaha. Well You probably just did! I wouldn't be surprised if plantman was 'powerful jedi' actually. Anyway on the other forum he ran for the hills with his head between his legs because he hasn't replied yet.
Ken: Thank you! Well a comparison to Struzan is always nice (for obvious reasons) but also can be a double edged sword. There are people who ape Struzan's style to a tee, but I try to avoid that as much as I can. I love his work but I don't try to analyze it, hoping I can ultimately come up with my own style. And I think you're right about the backgrounds! These were the first paintings I've done in photoshop so I was a little hesitant to add bgs, but I'm starting to add them in my new LOTR ones. Progress! Thank you for your input!

Well I guess you really can't call them 'new' because they're based on my old Lotr drawings, but they're new photoshop pieces!
Just click on the 'fellowship' link on my page.

Bloody hell...
That really takes those pictures to the next level, I must admit.
The hair on merry is about as lifelike as it gets, in my opinion.
Also, is that a silken shirt I spot on frodo? |
