I'm sorry...I'm usually not this harsh of ppl, but I never thought it was possible for someone to make such a bad drawing. I have to say my first reaction was to turn my head and gag.

Actually man, I'm going to save this drawing, just because IT IS SOOOOOOO BAD!!!!

Your drawing is a visual assault on the eyes. It will haunt my dreams forever. As a matter of fact I think you have single handedly ended my drawing career. I can no longer draw anymore for fear that some day in a drunken stupore that I might make a drawing as bad as this one.

Okay, I've got the song by Looper on the Vanilla sky soundtrack (which I recomend you listen to while reading this), my knuckles are cracked, and I'm ready to do this. For years and years now I've held my tounge about this sort of thing, but you've finally pushed me over the edge and it's now time to rant like I've never ranted before. For some reason, in this crazy mixed up world, some artistic children slide with a greasy wiggle through the fingers of class, taste, and style. Whenever these 'oh so rebelious' kids manage to escape, what arises are pages and pages of black ball point drawings on note book paper, wonderful little rebelious drawings of skulls, clever little tatoo ideas, needles (and if we're lucky, there will be a little drip coming out of it, with a shine! oOOOOooo). How many artists have gone to school with this kid in junior high, his black t-shirt with the band that *gasp* swears a lot! My god no son! And for some reason, these kids grow up and never stop. They become twenty something artistic losers who draw WarHammer box covers, or concert posters for 'Gwar'. My my, how freakin clever and oh so shockingly funny! a needle through his eye! For god knows what reason, they always seem to think in those 'dark' little heads of theirs that more = better. So we get what? oh good! More tatoos, more piercings! More drops of blood and for god sake, please, please put some nails into his flesh!!!!!!! F! AND WHY?! WHY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO THEY CONTINUE TO THINK THAT EVIL CLOWNS ARE SOME SORT OF GOOD THING?!! DICK! Well, it's not going to stop. They're gonna keep drawing 'evil' looking guys, glaring at us from underneath those eyebrows smiling a big 'evil' smile, with stiches all over, spikey freaking hair, little red veins in their eyes, and there's nothing we can do about it. More skulls, more retarded clowns with guns. More warhammer art. Horay for the art world. I'm done.

hehehe Minks

I understand Matt's rant. Even thought we don't like it we can not censor, that would go against the reason for painting, and the Arts in general. Free or more like, Human expression. Majority of the times, it's just a phase.

n8, i think the main problem is that given your other work, this probably should've gone in WIP or something rather than here in Finished.

Isric, i saw this picture and thought of you. (well, not physically... )

it's from here
Adrian Smith... that loser
aww c'mon... it's FUNNY!

Hey Matt, I can dig your rant, but here's another angle on the subject of "dark art."

When artists like you mentioned DO grow up a bit and go beyond the doodling, and they apply good taste and skills, they become famous artists like Geiger, Brom, Phil Hale..etc.

Matt-
I have been watching your work and reading your writings for some time now. I am dissapointed to see you break down like this. We have all drawn skulls, faries, or gun-toting sadists at one time or another. To rail on someone you do not know simply to vent your frustration is not appropriate in the least. In fact it is rude. We all go through different phases in our lives-- Please, try to be a bit more patient with those around you.
Your fellow brother,
Greg

Let me tell you a story.

For about a year, I didn't come to this forum. I had been doing other things, and had just pretty much forgotten about this community. So one day I think "Hey, why don't I go check out Sijun, and see whats happening in the digital design community". So I do. I come across this post almost Immediately. Now, there is nothing wrong with anyone posting their little speed sketches that stem out of boredom and frustration or whatever...but then I kept reading. These rants virtually damning n8 and anyone who wasn't "trendy" in high school is just plain idiotic. You arogant pricks are the reason this community is turning, or has turned, to shit. I wouldn't usually be so harsh in a post, but no one else seemed to hold back.

I guess maturity is a little too much to ask when people are asking for crits.

Time for some sarcastic crit of Isric's site while Im at it.

Isric: I love your use of a hot cartoon chick for a menu, brilliant. Also the lack of 800x600 support is inspiring to web developers worldwide. And light blue text on a white background is a great look, really easy to read I find. Strange, but interesting how your news section seems to change text colour halfway down.

After this little rant, should we say that Artists should stick to art and web designers should stick to web design? Of course not. People should be able to do what the hell they like without being publicly insulted by (obviously) angst-filled teenage "artists".

I'd love to hear anyones thoughts on my few paragraphs of rage By the way, I was a black T-shirt wearing kid. And I still wear black T-shirts. And occasionally, i'll draw a little angst-filled skull-man or something, as oposed to taking out my angst on others. As you may have noticed though, this is one of my weaker moments

simple intent of a forum like this should be to give and recieve feedback on your art. i can't see any other point. why get so worked up over nothing.

*sigh*...true to Isric form, I've said something crazy, and now have to come back sober and appologize. This isn't the first time I've done this, as some people here could vouch for.

n8- sorry mate. I'm not gonna use any excuses like 'bad day at work' or anything, I'm just a prick who can usually keep control of his fat arrogant mouth, but looses that control every now and then. Hope you can forgive me. I do know you can do better though. This is most likely some kind of stress relief picture (which I should have made instead of posting) and has an intended purpose.

jerO- heh, that's absolutely perfect.

NeoFun- sorry to you too. like I said, I'm a dick. In a pathetic moment of weakness I blasted someone who doesn't deserve it at all.

fazedesign- sorry to ruin your one trip to sijun, bud. If it's any consolation, while I wasen't a black t-shirt wearing angsty head, I wasen't by any means popular. Thanks for the crits on my web page too, it was funny.

If we could all sit in a room and figure all this out, we'd be just fine. As it stands now, we're never going to solve this over the internet. So in the end, sorry n8 (honestly) hope you can forgive me. And sorry for letting everyone down.

-matt

well, respect to the man for his apology. actually i really like your illustration style matt. do you do your stuff in painter?

btw n8's pic made me laugh although somewhat scary. i'm also new to these forums and its the first pic of his i've ever seen.

On the whole issue it really pisses me off to say someones work is crap or bad. When i was a kid I got told that i drew bad and i should give up by a teacher and i did and it's only now that i started drawing again and i have to start from scratch.
