Just my latest piece. I feel like it's done, but I'm open to any last minute critiques. I'll probably stray away from portraits for a little while after this. Maybe.
I'm going to Siggraph. If anyone wants to find me I'll have Sijun written in big black letters on my forehead. |

I like it a lot. I enjoy the mood, and the palette. And the pose and expression are flawless.
If I where to say anything, it would be that the head and the mechanical arm seem to be lit by a pretty bright light, where the armor and gun in the scene seem to be more subtle. But thats truly nit-picking.
Nice Work! |

Sedone: This is one of my faves from you recently. I really dig these portrait style paintings.
Only crit is about the hair. It looks like a toupee' of William Shattner-esque proportions. It's just the way it goes from flesh tone to pure beige.
Anyway, this is great! |

ice_kube, I agree with you about his arm. Not sure of the solution, though (scratches head). It sort of grew on me after a while.
Thanks, Hoodz.
Ceenda, that's hilarious. He does bear a resemblence to William Shatner. Er, hmmm. I'll have to tweak his hair then. |

I replaced the old pic with a new one. His hairdo should hopefully be better now. |

This is very good sedone. I really like the dry blood sort of color scheme. The Mechanical arm looks like play-doh on some parts...it somehow gives an impression that if i were to press my thumb against it; I'd leave a mark. |

The arm destroys the subtle color scheme imo though. |

Novacaptain, interesting observations . All he needs is one of those play-doh factories and he can have an infinite variety of shapes to choose from. I'm going to tweak the arm a bit tho.
Klaivu, you've got a point.
Thanks, Ornicar. You've got some impressive work yourself.
Help me out dudes. Do you guys prefer this version with the subtle arm, or the previous? I think I like this version a whole lot more.

Another nice one. I like the second revision better as well, though I think I would have played it different. Toning the arm down helps, but I think I would have upped some of the lighting on his chest and the top of the gun. If you localized the light properly, it might visually explain why the arm plane is receiving a lot of highlighting but the parallel gun plane isn't. I don't doubt that it COULD look like that, but it seems to lack rhythm.

Whew! Busy morning. I took Pat's suggestion about upping the light on the chest and gun into consideration. The second pic should reflect the changes. The crits you guys have been giving me have been really helpful. Thanks again. |
