I also put this in its own thread, but since it was done fast and furious - 2 to 3 hours, here it is in the speed painting thread as well...

Took about an hour. I'm messing with color and how it affects depth in painting.

hey ValarianROOT,
your idea intrigued me. How does color affect depth?
warmer colors: move fowards in space
cooler colors: move away in space
saturated color: moves fowards
unsaturated color: move away
I didn't want to mess with value so as to see the effect with just the color properties, so I didn't adjust the values. I think it works except maybe the saturated reds might not be the closest color as I tried to use them. hmm...
To my surprise(!) when I took out the color there were different values! Turns out colors have inherent values (yellows are very light even when thick and saturated and violets have the darkest value). Here's what it looked like:

hethebar - you should not really be surprised. Take the picture in to photoshop and move the eyedropper around. Its easy to see there is differences in value. Though you might not intentionally paint with value... Also one should point out there's differences in how Photoshop handles color to greys via. the 'convert to grayscale mode' option and though the hue/saturation adjustment slider...
I started a thread some while back on this subject. Dont know if you have seen the thread already..?
,Boom

PS. sorry to go offtopic, but this is something i have given much thought lately |

Oh and for anyone who can't imagine, that's my MGLogic pad. (omg I can't beleive I did something normal) Oh and don't wonder about that dark spot on the left... it's the shadow of my monitor

"I'm listening" [20 minutes]
Painter Classic - Oil Pastels
I'm actually quite satisfied with the face (except the anatomical issues). I made the face first and it took only about 10 minutes to construct. No reference were used. Just painted from my head I'm really starting to like this proggy. If I could only get the real cont feel to it.. |

there's something horribly wrong with this one... it's muddy, awkward, indecisive, overworked with scribbling. nothing I intended it to be. I suck.
