Must do more stuff like this. This will help me greatly.

At the moment I don't get how to econimize form and shapes I think (amongst heaps of other things I don't get). Hopefully understanding will be revealed through practice.

Gimbal8: You have the right idea about tonal simplification. Shapes can also be simplified. Texture can be simplified aswell. Keep practicing and you'll get better. Try to vary your line width with that paintbrush, and I think that is the reason the chic's nose looks 'clunky', because you didn't take the time to use a small brush on the shape. It is clear that you have simplified because the nose is established with only one stroke, so you have the right idea. Of course like everything rules aren't set in stone, so thats is wwhy you make want to add some more detail in areas of interest, whether that be compositional or subjective.

Hope that helps.

Flash 5, 20 minutes.

It's funny, not too many people use flash for illustration work, I find it really easy to use, PLUS everything you create is websafe and vector so it can be scaled to whatever size you want.

palladia mors, just ignore Amanda's trolling. Your work is awesome. It never fails to inspire me to try new techniques and to work harder on painting more often.

Lunatique, I always color adjust in Photoshop. It's not so much that I can't do it in Painter, but PS is just more friendly about it. For one, I get an interactive display of the adjustment over the entire image. In Painter I only get a tiny window and I have to select the change and apply it before I get to preview the effect in it's entirety. I'm just taking advantage of the strength's of each program.
