Amazing pictures! Really!
The facial expressions and the shadowing is just awesome. Some of the best I've seen in this type of art(Manga inspired, computer colored, non-sequential images, that is).
There's a couple of things I miss, though.
Lineweight is one. I'm a huge fan of lineweight. Helps to bring the pictures alive.
More connection between the characters and the background, is the other. Your characters are done in completly different style than the background and special effects. It breaks the illusion, somewhat. Greater integration between characters and background would in my mind make the pictures even better.
I also think the there are tendencies to a bit heavy effects use here and there. As I see things, effects should always be built around the line art, not put on top of it. For instance in the picture of the guys on the cliff, jumping at eachother, I think the motion blur should have been drawn first as feathered lines or uncomplete lines, then the special effects coloring should go be put under that, so that the effects compliments the lines, not overrides them.
I'm kind of a fascist when it comes to lines, so don't take my words to seriously.
But, completly and totally excellent pictures!

Thanks a bunch! I also love line weight but it deters away from the traditional aspects of Japanese animation, I was trying to make this look like a TV show I suppose. But background blending coulda been better put into affect! |

I like it, and agree with the last criticisms, but what stands out even more to me is a sort of lack of action. I feel like he should be pushing more dramatically into the man with the scar, leaning forward at a greater angle with his right arm pulled back a little bit more. I'm sure it would let the viewer feel the impending impact and make it more impressive to look at.
And now that I think of it, some sort of krinkle by the nose would seem appropriate with how wide open his mouth is. I say this expecting him to be producing some REALLY loud bloodcurdling war cry. I guess stressing a slightly pushed-up nostril could accomplish this.
Sorry if I'm being a bitch about little things, just trying to help. |

No s'ok, I see you point.
A crinkle or three would help.
And a little "harder" push would too. Let's just say he/she is "inbetween" the medium and hard push motion. heh... |

Quite good one, but there are 2 things which I don't like:
-the thickness of lines is all the same. Try to vary it a bit to underline the shadows.
-the right guy seems strange because of the perspective, try to turn him a little bit - would look more realistic
and he is not very dynamic, he looks like a statue instead of moving
Hope I could help you |

heh heh, thats pretty funny Zak. Hope you had fun! I like the rays of light and prolly better portrayed metal. Dunno bout the blood cascade from the guys mouth though, heh.
Thx but again, the art style I was portraying, being Japanese anime, does not consist of varying line widths. That is a faculty of American comics. It looks good but it wasn't what I was looking for at the time. Thx though!
Yup, dynamics... : |

gammon: im guessing a lot of these people dont understand that you wern't going for the comic book style. It's more of a traditional anime cel shaded/animation style. So line wieghts and blending have no place here.
I love what you've done. Your drawing style is similar to Masamune Shirow (ghost in the shell, one of the best anime's ever). Or Spriggan which i think shirow designed also. Great work i'd love to see more. Next time in your first post just make it obvious that your going for the cel shaded look. |

gammon, you are mistake, me like many here understand quite a bit about japanese anime, mainly form reading manga's and just watching anime, however the style althou really good, gets very repetitive very quickly, at least i felt that way. i dunno about everyone else. but i started with anime. the actual drawing was the best, colouring just went fad after a bit, so i started painting them, rather than cell shading. matter of taste really.
wait, i see no real reason for typing this. i guess im a bored of waiting for my dinner to cook itself.
ps. i had loadsa fun doin the overpaint. i managed to do lightrays without filters for a change, so i learned something |

I have to say that after hearing that you wanted to replicate a sort of anime(Not manga) feel, I can totally understand your lack of lineweight(although I still would like to see some of it ).
But, the blending of the background\foreground, doesn't strike me as particularly anime.
But the pictures are excellent anyhow. |

Glad to hear that Beowulfthefallen! THX!
LOL! Yeah I suppose cell shading can get "repetitive", tell the Japanese community that! Heh... If you look at my Escaflowne picture, I kinda painted them...
