my second of 6 monster portfolio pics is this kappa, a kappa is a japanese water goblin. they are often responsible for drawing victims or ambushing them on river bridges, they do this so they can eat the bowels of there victims, but they usually leave travelers alone if there offerd a cucumber.. with is the kappas fav food. the depression in ther ehea dis filled with liquid, without it the kappa dies.. anyway, enjoy.

Its been nearly two days and no one even replied a simple "I like it !" ?
such a waste ... the line-work is really great i think ..
going to do some nitpicking: the Kappa's left hand looks like its resting on something thats flat, when its supposed to be a rounded tree branch.
Personally i like illustrations that comes with a bit of a story, like this one.
I didnt even know such a creature existed.
Must really suck having liquid for brains. |

Im especially fascinated by his watercooled brain ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Malveaux,
This is considered hi-jacking someone's thread. If you want comments on your pic, post a thread of your own. Don't try and steal the thunder from someone else's. I know you're "new" and all, but come on dude.. use some common sense. |

I know that I'm new also, but isn't the reasoning behind having a forum. For people to voice their criticism yes, but also to keep the ideas coming and flowing. Its a place for discussion and expressing ideas.
Speed paintings didnt end with one guy who posted his paintings, there are pages and pages of beautiful and unique artwork. Its not fair to alienate someone who wants to keep a specific topic going. You of all people, who have been here for a while, should welcome that, because you will keep new people away, and they may think twice before adding to any posts. |

You don't seem to fully understand the concept of a forum, ice_kube.
The speed painting thread was started to involve everyone. Usually the starter of a thread specifies whether or not others should contribute to the process.
For example, imagine you took a piece of your work up in front of your drawing class to get some critiques for your teacher. But all of a sudden someone pushes you out of the way and shows their drawing instead for the teacher to comment on. Doesn't seem too polite, does it? |

Pixelsoldier is dead-on correct. I'm a little bummed that neither picture is being critiqued now.
Ratty, fucking awesome work, as ever. Utterly stunningly cool, and I'm also thrilled to see pencil/line work posted here. It's my favorite thing in the world!
;3, darling. Heh heh heh! |

I posted this picture only because it was on the same subject of Japanese mythology.
It surely wasn't my idea to "hi-jack" anything.
On the opposite, it was just meant as partecipating to Ratbat's inspiration.
I wouldn't mind if anyone posted a picture in a thread I've started, especially if such picture has something that relates it to mine. I'd feel that my inspiration has caused another person's ispiration, and that there is something he created because I gave him an impulse.
Always making new threads seems to me to have the only effect of scattering our artwork around the forums.
Anyways, I make my heartfelt apologies to whomever I offended by posting my picture here.

That's settled then, and we can again focus on the image in question
I like. The story really adds. I agree with the hand not folding around the trunk. I think perhaps the "shell"/body could use some more work to bring out that nice texture? But all in all it looks very professional, and it's an excellent piece for a portfolio!
Thanks, |

Great Kappa. Why? 'Traditionaly' Kap are depicted kinda goofy... but considering their proclivity to suck on your anus as they drag you into the depth, this is more apropriate.
The creaping posture is nice and sinister; the beast looks worried about being spoted, and the expression exudes gread and longing -like it is currently coveting someones anus that is just a bit out of reach.
This expressiveness is more important than your method of rendering. Tasty -send more!
