Something I made to put in my portfolio; any critiques and advice/tips on making it better is greatly appreciated

her nose is drawn like her head is tilted, but her eyes and nose are drawn like her face is seen from practically straight on, if that makes any sense. the anatomy on her left arm is really kinda weird too. |

Hey! Pretty neat. Very clean!
Here we go:
* Her face has, as pointed out by other people, shading problems. Flip the image horizontally and take a look - might help.
* The flames/pond of fire doesn't come off as that because it doesn't really emit light - it doesn't really light up anything in it's proximity - just imagine flames that big - they'd blast a lot of light around.
Would give you the opportunity to give her boobies a nice highlight
This is the biggest issue UI think.
* Columns: they also need some light from the flames. And the semi-glossy way they're shaded makes them look kinda weird. They're not rock, nor metal - what are they?
They could also, with the right value, act as a nice compositional element that helps with giving the image space and better staging.
* Position of the fire lake: It stops right there at the columns. Why? Is there some kind of wall behindf them? It seems to also be in the wrong perspective - You can u8se this element to give your image more space and close it off at the bottom.
* The fractal cloud pattern in the bg columns must go. Hehe ... way too recognizeable.
I'd keep working on it. It's already a good piece, but lacks certain things that de-value the good elements in it. Keep going!
Cheers,

Actually, I only used the clouds in the archways; but thank you SO much for giving me the benefeit of the doubt. THe rest of the background was done with feathered selection tools, dodge tool, and adjusting the contrast. I also combined multiple layers set to multiply to darken it. |

A quick solution to making this image look better (in my opinion) is cropping.
Crop it so that it's a symetrical composition. Also make both her arms the same.

hmm...her face looks very ugly. It also seems that you really wanted to paint something naked/nude, but it doesn't fit to all images..this is one of these.
otherwise, I think you have a good subject on it, and your linework is good!
keep on. |

well, personally i agree with the flames lighting effects. right near her belly button, along the line of her "wrapped around thingy", u have that bit of yellow lighting. thats exactly what u need, but more! also, the shading is almost the opposite of how the flames are. uve made her highlighted from the top, as is typical, but in this case, the light is coming from bellow, and all the shadows should be on the opposite sides. ie, the breasts, should be dark on top and light on the bottom...also the face, well , its been mentioned.
other wise, its awesome! i really like the concept, and i dont agree with nevanlinna, i think the nakedness fits well. |

on the arm, the pectoral muscle and the posterior deltoid would seem to go over the arm around to the back. Right now you have the pectoral/posterior deltoid going inbetween her bicep and tricep.
take a look. this guy is obviously much larger than the girl, but the bodybuilders definition gives you a great demonstration of where muscles are supposed to originate and isert. Notice how his chest and shoulters muscles seem to go up and over the bicep
