I'm new at the forum but i hear great things about it.
Here are some works ive done in the recent years, in chronologically order

The pics containing mechs were drawing with visual aids.
The last pic is my recent one, i am new to photoshop and cg coloring but am learning. I didnt manage to cell color well because the polygonal lasso in ps 6 does not curve like it does in 5.5 so i am downgrading to 5.5. |

Welcome to the forum!
Sorry I don't really have any useful criticism to offer on your works, I'm not really familiar with the manga style, but they look pretty good overall - I like the pencil sketch.
Btw, don't take it personally if you don't get a lot of comments - there's just so many posts here these days that it seems most people don't post comments anymore until they have something specific to suggest, or unless the work/artist is remarkable...
Of course it's a bit of a shame, since everyone likes getting feedback and sometimes it can be really vital for motivation. But in a high-traffic forum like this, a lot of stuff ends up lost in the crowd
(OTOH, I think people overall could show a bit more restraint with starting new topics. Threads like speed painting and gas masks are great because you can quickly browse through a lot of works (much nicer than if they were in their own topics), and there's still the option to comment if someone wants to...)

I'm not sure why, but I get the picture that your work has somehow downgraded. In the last two pictures, the shapes of the heads look very very odd. And I can't really tell what's wrong with it. One thing I might recommend is that don't use the lasso tool. Use a normal paintbrush for the cell shades. It isn't really a big of a difference when doing cell style, but when you get a tablet, or just otherwise want to get your work to look more hand drawn, the fact that you have at least used the paintbrush tool tends to be very helpful.
in the last picture the thing bothering me the most is the fact that the colours are exactly the ones used for Rei in neon genesis evangelion. Which makes the character look a bit like a failed attempt to draw Rei, even if it is otherwise clearly distinguished as a character of your own.
Hmm... Don't mind me. |
