I did about 40 of these for an RPG book called "Children of the Sun", coming out next month from Misguided Games...my boss said I could post one online, mostly to plug the book. So...

Critiques are welcome, although the book's already away to the printer, obviously. I did this a while ago, so already I am seeing things I could've done better...but I still like it for what it is...was.... |

there's something wrong with the eyes. dunno what it is, exactly. the torso seems a tad bit long. also she could use some stronger shadows below her on the tree. but woohoo a real woman for a change! not a skinny silicon implant ad.
I love your work, as always. |

I disagree with the above crits.
The whole image is pleasing to the eye. |

it was for me too at the first glance... i was astonished and kept staring at the pic. then somehow I started to notice these minor mistakes in it. nothing serious really Doh. I shouldn't find mistakes in the great pics here. I'd be much happier if I didn't, that way I could at least be happy of my own work... might find less mistakes in them too. Ignorance is bliss eh? (talkin about myself here)

That's a great picture. I really like the way the leaves of the trees were done.
I kinda agree about the eyes. Her right eye probably has too much of a rounded black area instead of being more of a dark line indicating eyelashes or whatever. And something about the thumb and wrist look a little off. But these are minor things. I would have sent it off to the printers too. Otherwise you nit-picky artist would never be done.
Asurfael: Finding mistakes in other's work helps you find the mistakes in yours, as you know. The better you get at it the better your work will be because of it. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion. |

YES!
Lewis finally allowed it, eh?
Looking good, Socar, as usual.
I can't wait to get my hands on the book...your art and what I've heard of the game so far (which is actually quite a lot as Lewis and I have discussed it a few times) makes for one must-have book.
Keep up the wonderful work!

Asurfael - Good points...I'll watch those eyes in future. Thanks for the crits & compliments!
DickCheese - Thanks! (I never thought I'd be using "dickcheese" and "thanks" in the same sentence...but, hey, stranger things have happened....)
Asurfael - I do that too...the longer I stare at something (especially my own work), the more bloopers I see. So I try not to stare too much, eh?
Gimbal - Thank you. I'd noticed the wrist thing, myself...I would've changed that, but I did not see it in time. And, yeah, you're right--I'd STILL be nitpicking if the deadline weren't WAY past.
Malachi - Hey, thanks! I will.
Veritas - You know Lewis? Awesome! *G* I'm majorly looking forward to the book, as well--not just because it's got my art in it (woo, hang out more flags!), but because it looks pretty damn awesome, from what I've seen. Just a couple of weeks to go!
Fate - Thank you! |

Geez, I'm that bad? Why don't people tell me these things? Anyway, Socar's work keeps getting better and better and I simply love working with her. You should see the stuff she has just completed for the first supplement for Children of the Sun. Fantastic! Now I just need to talk to her about that cover she's been bugging me to do...
I forgot to say I really liked this particular picture (Dan and I both did actually). It wasn't at all what we had expected, but neither of us gave it a second though after we saw it.
