I've been playing aroung with some of my quick pencil sketches in photoshop. I guess I'm seeing if I can make a simple sketch into a more "finished" looking piece.
Anyway, I used photo ref on all these images. Comments and criticisms are very welcome.

Nice! I like all of them, the only thing that bugs me is the 'stiffness' in your lines on the female portrait. Specifcally due to the fact that the lines should be representative of the subject, feminine. Whereas on the older man, the structural quality suits well.
Hope that helps. |

Thanks for the positive comments everyone!
Ian: I agree with you about the stiffness of my lines on the girl portrait. I considered making them a little more rounded, but then I thought they worked well with the structural rigidness of the chair. I like to draw with mostly straight lines, which makes my drawings pretty angular in places. I guess it goes back to one of my figure drawing instructors always telling me my drawings were too "round". Maybe I've gone too far in the other direction Anyway, many thanks for the crit. You have a good eye; I was thinking the exact same thing as you looking back on my work. |
