I felt like doing something more loose and impressionistic after getting so retentive on my Alita picture, and since Ben is having a "beauty and the beast" contest over on his board:

I may go back and work on some of the obvious issues if I have time, but I'm tempted to just leave it as-is, lest I ruin it with too much attention.

Its meant to look somewhat like those old pulp sci-fi illusrations from the 20s-60s.

I dunno.. I almost think there is too much detail in the background on the mountains... the forground needs some detail.. I think you should keep going on it.. I like it so far.. I think its quite good.

Its weird how one board can reaps lots of replies and another goes rather barren...aye?

Well mate I'll reply here aswell...

As far as I'm concerned this is f'ing amazing and its worthy of much dribbly sweet feedback & fanboy praise. The quick strokes producing the groovy realism are indication of a learned artist I think.
The mountains snow gleams so sweetly, I don't recall seeing such a radiant glow.
This whole piece rocks man!.

Gotta go.

Catcha later

Lukiaz says it just right.

Excellent image. The colors are fantastic, the style is casual without looking rushed ... and I think it's an awesome idea.

Nicely done.

What a great mood. I agree with the comment that there's a lot of area that feels unfinished compared to the detail of the background.

Okay...
Uh.

Wow.

Maybe the ground's texture could be a little more defined, but other than that, see the first three lines of this post.

I agree on the mountain vs. ground thingy.

BUT what I really want to express is how damn great the drawings are you produce lately. First the superb Alita picture and now this! You have a great sense on texture feel imo and are better at lighting than any Global Illumination Renderer could ever do

Thanks for the feedback guys!

"that's really really nice. what technique/tools did you use for this?"

I used Photopaint 10. My brush was set with a high bleed and low color sustain, making it look a lot like thick oil paint. I also used a hard-edged blending tool called "undither" when I wanted to soften details or average colors across an area.

I get the impression that I work more with 100% opaque brushes than most digital artists. A lot of guys build up their paintings with layered washes, but I never worked that way with traditional media, so I'm not very good at doing it on the computer. I tend to just grab exactly the color I want from the picker, and then paint with it at full intensity. If I need to dampen the transition between colors, I'll go back and use the aforementioned undither tool.

Wow I love the colours and rendering of the mountains. The values are so warm and soft.

But I agree that the foreground could be refined more. Nonetheless, it's looking good!

This is really great piece. The other is nice too.

Only observations:

1. Check details
2. Check contrast
3. Check movement
4. Check composition
