i got an unusual assignment on my job.
i'm going to do a painting of a forest. it's going to be 8 meters wide and 2 meters high.
i've done a sketch of it... i'd like to know what you think of it.
it's all done with a ballpoint pen, it's 40x10 cm's big. |

I agree the forground trees look sparce, but it's not a problem if you're not making a dense primal forest. this reminds me of a beautiful sea-side park, sunset on the horizon. The background trees in shadow are quite nice.
I think the two trees in the middle appear kinda unusual. The left one is wavy, and the right one has lumps that make it look a little awkward. Maybe could find some info and pics on the tree types that fit the location and altitude of this scene.
This project sounds really cool, where will this painting be displayed? |

Whoah 8meters by 2 meters, that's gonna be huge.
I like it but I think the trees in the foreground are too sparse. It looks more like a park then a forest. Also the centre of attention is that little clearing in the middle. I think it's too centered and maybe you wanna offset this point of attention to one of the sides to make it more interesting and maybe not make the clearing so obvious. |

Hot dang, I dig the sketch.. I hope it translates well into a 8x2m painting. It's gonna take a while to paint..
I have to agree with Hunago on the front right tree. I don't think it should get thicker again towards the top. It makes it look a bit awkward.
You might also wanna check the tree sticking out behind the curved front left tree. It seems to disappear at the bottom..
Maybe it's supposed to be connected to the curved one? It doesn't really look convincing to me though. I think it's because of the shadows.
You did a very good job anyhow! trees are hard stuff to draw.. I always struggle with getting them to look anything like trees.
The sketch should look a whole lot better than a .jpg as well.
Oh, Opeth, Katatonia, Entombed and some other bands plays in Bengtsfors tomorrow (saturday) if you haven't heard. I wish I could be there
see ya |

It's a beautiful design, and I like the way you have a clearing in the forest.
The one thing I that stands out for me, is how regularly the trees are spaced. It's almost as if they are planted in rows a fixed distance from one another. I would suggest varying the distances, so that you get more interesting shapes between the trees. Make it a bit more unbalanced.
It looks like it's shaping up to be an interesting piece of work. I thinkI speak for all on the board that we would love to see photos of how it turns out. All the best ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |
