I'm just wondering why you only have 4 out of 5 stars! Crazy. That's a great pic. |

*blubbers through his tears*
F*** me nekkid. How do you do it? You've been asked this before and I might have been one of those that did; PhotoShop? Painter? Initial canvas size?
I'm still in the process of improving my digital skills so call me SpongeWaldo SquarePants. PhotoShop I can get around in, but using it as an illustrative tool is my latest challenge and Painter... still getting punched in the nose by that interface and lag. Any insight would be most appreciated.
Shame you can't enter your own contest. I have yet to contribute to your forum, but will do so soon. Nice work and thank you for all of your contributions...
edit>>> And now for a quick comment or two. There is a pretty bright highlight bouncing of her butt/hip and I think the reflective highlight on the beast could be punched a bit more. Her tail doesn't seem to be emanating from the center of her spine and the depth/dimension of her wings, particularly the closest to the viewer is somewhat lost. And yes, the rose and petal. I'm assuming she'll be holding it, but is it really necessary? I can see why you say you rushed it because you might have thought something needed to be there, but I'd like to see something without. Maybe filling the negative space with a bit more of the mountains in the background? Maybe not. I do like the addition of the rose and I do like the way she has her hand laying across the beast, but I can see your dilemma.
Anyway my two cents and then some. Nice work as usual...

As always, the pic is stunning...
I really love the beast's face. I think its the best part about the image. Interesting take on the subject matter |

i agree with all the comments, i love the glint of light in one of the eyes and the visible pupil.
the only thing that stuck out to me was that her head seems awfully big. i've never had a problem with your other work and the exaggeration in them, but this time something doesn't seem to fit for me. unfortunately i can't point out exactly what's different in this piece from your other work so i guess i'm just trippin'. |

Excellent! Whenever I read "Roundeye" I have to look at it. And you never disappoint. Great work. Maybe her tail should not disappear behind the leg (or tail?) of the beast. That part confused me alittle, yet it is no big deal. And maybe it's just me. Great work!

Awetopsy: 'preciate the bump and im glad you like.
Daijoobu: heres the big one, the size i worked at: http://www.eatpoo.com/images/big.jpg
Cleoric: thanks man. (vote me five! im at 4.44 now! )
Waldo: thanks man. its PS6 allways. and the initial canvas size is the link up there. i cant get around painter either. i want to learn it and will one day. she wont be holding the rose, its floating and her right hand is nestled someplace warm. thanks for taking the extra time to critique.
Jezebel: thanks a ton jezebel. i appreciate it.
Blitz: thanks bro!
c: youre probably right. i think i may have surpased the limits of acceptably exagerated head size. i wont go any bigger in the future
Benji Schupp: thanks dude
jr: this is true
Malachi Maloney: thanks man, i apreciate it!!!!

I observe within my own self that this looks good.
I do observe however that the background looks a little faded and the rose looks slightly out of place. |

I decided to do a "paint over" on this one. A lot of clone stamp and stuff.
I reduced the size of the head because it is hard to believe that the neck could support the other head.
I decreased the darkness of her eyebrows and added a few extra touches to the mouth area. I increased contrast of background and of her wings to provide a better dark pattern for composition.
I also removed rose and added some cheap snow.
I'll not mess up your thread but check out my version here:

Awesome roundeye!!!
I absolutely adore the innocent look in her face and posture! The pose is just SO vivid, I'm almost able to see her gentle slowmotion turn toward the "camera", and her eyes watering as she blinks into the sun... ! Just SOOO vivid!!!
But the tail man... Waldo noticed it in his post, but I'll just have to repeat it! It looks as if its attached to the side of the muscles supporting her spine and not being the continuation of the spine as tails generally are! It looks... well I cant help it... its bothering me, since the rest of the piece is so... well so damn RIGHT!!
Just one other thing... I seem to be missing... well I find myself searching for her right hand (I know you're still working on the back of the beast, and that might explain why the hand is missing now!) but its as if the lack of the right hand in the painting is making her seem more flat than intented!
Otherwise... read my first line again! |

i find your paintover insulting, light. not sure why. the rose is crucial to not only the story of beauty and the beast but the pic and its composition. also they are in hell so i dont see why itd be snowing, also i know how big the head is cuz i drew it i also consciously made the mountains light. i have the hunch that you werent doing the paintover for my benifit, but just for the sake of painting over something. it just didnt seem honest. and not helpfull considering i just did this for fun.
dosent seem like fun anymore.
the head does look a little better smaller. and i appreciate your effort. but all of your sugestions were taste choices that i made over the course of DAYS that you refuted in MINUTES. dosent seem right.
also i drew her right hand and i didnt like it so i erased it. didnt look as good as the left hand.
i never did takes crits well. |

Don't worry man, Light makes his living painting over other people's stuff because he can't get the anatomy right on a stickman.
He thinks he's hot shit, but he's really just cold piss.
I'm so sick of that kid. He drives me nuts (as you can tell). |

babies in thongs seems too child-pornish for me, but still a great piece of art. |

Roundeye:
I know they are taste desiscions but they are my taste desciscions. I respect your taste desiscions.
But, hey I did a free paint over and if anyone will put them in a browser and flip back and forth between them then they may find they like my version better.
I think the rose looks cheesy, really. You've tried to use it as a symbolic link between the girl and the beast but I find in its current state that it looks fairly cheesy. I would find it better to be put in her hand (or something more realistic).
The snow acts as a compositioal link between the girl and beast. The darkened wings gives the composition a more circular feel. Placing attention on the girls head and the beast more.
Anyway, as Sumaleth said just be happy you get a paint over.
The head is too large to be believable and doesn't (imo) go with the rest of the picture. You can only distort reality so much before it becomes unbelievable. I think in my case it suspended my belief in the painting so I made it smaller.
But, uhm I agree they are taste desciscions. I thought that this would be obvious.
I'm really quite surprised you were not pleased with it.
But, maybe I'll leave this board as it seems people that do the good work don't expect to have to hear comments on their work and the people that post the lesser quality works get ragged on.
Anyway.. I do like your version too. Never said I didn't.
I, also, don't see why my artistic sense should intefere with your artistic sense. Nor why my critiques should bother you. I wouldnt post here either if it werent just to show my work as I can generally see anything in the picture that needs worked on.
But, then if someone offered some suggestions I didn't like then I wouldn't be too much bothered as this would confirm that to my own senseabilities I was the better artist.

my eyes are popping out of my head. that is absolutely gorgeous. evokes a sense of awe yet at the same time, a somewhat cautious, eery feeling =). great imagery.
hey, is it just me or does she look like rachel weisz from that movie the mummy??? you know, brendan frasier's love interest and then wife in the sequel? i totally think so. *grin* |

Great work roundeye
Light: Ehhhhh... the thing is, people who are good do like getting crits, and same with people who are less good. The thing is... I've noticed when YOU critique stuff, you seem to write your reply in the most arrogant way, and it really screams out a "I am better then you" attitude in them.
My suggestion for you is not to think so high of yourself and be more neutral. You probably have lots of knowledge and experience, but share them in a proper and nice way..
and I do prefer roundeyes version, because the head looks big enough for you to know that, oh this is some sort of cartoonish rendering.. |

Yea roundeye, I too am surprised you didn't like Light's paintover.
And he's right, you should be extremely happy that he ruined your piece with his incredible lack of talent.
"The head is too large to be believable and doesn't (imo) go with the rest of the picture. You can only distort reality so much before it becomes unbelievable."
Are you insane? Does this image look as though it is based on reality? It is a half-naked little devil woman petting an evil beast in the pits of Hell. The entire piece is done with a "cartoony" feel. It quite obviously isn't an exercise in realism. This is FANTASY art.
Light, you're soooooooooo full of all this "valuable" advice, but you do NOT apply it to your own work. You wait for other people to spend 10-20 hours on something, and then you fuck around with it, and hope you'll score some credit from someone else's work.
Maybe you should spend all this apparent free time you have working on improving your own work. It needs it. |

PixelSoilder:
Whatever. I don't care. I think I'm going to start ignoring you. You rarely have anything to say that is intelligble. You made a big deal out about me offering logo design services in the phoenix thread and your own post was "oh my gawd is that a flame filter". Case rested. Ignore on.
Binke:
If you read my first two post to this thread you will see that there is no evidence whatsoever that I wrote anything to suggest that I'm better then anyone!! Read my first two post to this thread over and over.
Does this really sound like someone who thinks their better?
Quote:"

I'll not mess up your thread but check out my version here:

---
Roundeye shouldn't be upset either considering the last critique I seen him give was "looks good..but whats with the orange shit on the edges of everything? wheres that commin from?"
I think this place has two standards by which critiques are judged.
Btw Pixel, as far as trying to "score points" -- eh you will notice my ratings are turned off! I can do quite nice artwork and you are in no position to state what I need to work on.
However, I am working on some things but I work on them for myself. Not anyone else and on my own time frame. The way of the master not the lamer.
...
Anyway, this is my last post to this thread. It is Roundeyes. Not mine.
I second my original opinion that this is a pretty good picture. I like the beast a lot. |

Wow, that's some great work roundeye. I do have a question for you however, and that is; Why do you work so small?? I guess if it's just a "for fun" thing that I could understand why you might work small. But I think (as do many other people judging by the feedback you have thus far) that this is a wonderful painting! I say if you're going to go to all the trouble to paint it... MAKE IT BIG! That way you can print it big without scaling up (I'm sure you knew that).
Between the overpaint and roundeyes original, I choose the original. While the head does look a little better slightly smaller IMHO, it makes the neck look funny to me. Just my $0.02

Light: I was not implying that my description of you were based on your replys in this thread. I've read several of your replys to other peoples thread, and your reply to roundeyes comment just made me want to state my opinion about the subject in matter.. hey maybe im an asshole, but thats my general view of you anyways. |
