(UPDATE: ADDED FOUR MORE)
(UPDATE: ADDED SIX MORE PICTURES IN A LATER POST, and converted all the files to gif format)
Some background sketches drawn at location, directly with ink:

The last two are done with a refillable brush, the first ones are done with a pilot pen and a thick marker.

Very skillful. I especially like the third and fourth.

The other ones are well done as well, but they don't read as clearly to me. I think you did an incredible job separating lots of different values with only two colours on the third and fourth, where as it is still obvious in the others but not quite as successful.

You have a good eye for detail, which will take you a great distance on its own. Combine that with practice and understanding and you're gonna be one helluva great artist.

Hey, I like these a lot. I'd suggest playing up the difference between the surfacesa bit more though.

Great drawings, I must say I love the movement and rhythm in the last one (it kind of reminds me a Munch painting).

But the 3rd and 4th one are also great. The composition with the boats was nicely done, I'd consider doing a painting of that if I was you

Gee... thanks alot for the very positive response... I really like doing these, so it feels very nice that people actually like watching them.

Funny that two of you mentioned picture 3 and 4, since these are the only two that have been slightly retouched.
On #3 I quickly added some blacks in the background after I left the location, because I had gone a little overboard with the crosshatching(I somewhat knew this when I drew it, but the sun was setting, and I wanted to see what it looked like in proper lighting).
On #4 my marker ran out of ink, so all the blacks on the left side of the picture are put in after I got around to buying a new one.

I guess it pays of to cheat a little, heh...

I will not do anymore work on any of these, but...

...I will try to post some more sketches as I make them, and experiment more with things like surface texture and shading, but I've switched tools from pen and marker to a brush-pen, which makes it all alot harder to do, but also a lot more rewarding.

(I hope)

nice work. I like the two last most
just a tip.. save pics like these in GIF fileformat. you can go from 220kb to 30kb.
use the 'Save for Web' from the 'File' menu in Photoshop

Not much to crit here! These are great!

I prefer the first and the last drawing. The first has an aggressive "movement" to it that I like.

The last feels different than the rest of the series. It seems to be headed in a more daring, abstract direction.

But they're all good, especially considering they were drawn from life.

very good!
I don't drwa lamdskapes very often, for my personal taste it is boring.
However you did a goo job.

Butit looks like it could be Painter.
In Painter it is very easy to produce such pics, just painting over a photo.
of course i don't to say that you do that!

Cheers

Rhumbus: Glad you liked the last one... it was hell to do...

I went out sometime after sunset, and sat myself under a lamppost just inches away from the road, and started drawing...

... It was 4 degrees celsius, most of what I drew I couldn't properly see, and every 5th second or so a car buzzed by just a couple of feet besides me, their frontlights blinding me each time, completely obscuring the view... Busses were the worst... I had my heart up in my throat each time a buss went by... and my butt was freezing... and the all the people at the nearby buss stop gave me these absurd looks... but I couldn't draw them, since the busstop was just outside of what I'd started drawing... Only one of them stood a little outside of the others, so he got to be in the picture... I think the picture took about one and a half hour to do, and after thirty minutes my nose started running... I must have been quite a sight.

But, it was fun.

(Edit)
Randis Albion: I normally do most of my backgrounds for comics by manipulating photos in photoshop, then printing them in blueline and inking them. But these are done on location, directly with ink, purely for fun(and they're pretty useless for my comics, too).
I never used to like drawing backgrounds... I'm more of an anatomy guy... But I've started pushing myself into doing it, and it's actually quite fun.
If you want proof that they're not done in painter, I could go out and photograph some of the locations and post the picture, but then you'd all see that my drawings are not as accurate as they might appear to be... heh... and we wouldn't want to put me in a bad light, now would we?

Been a little too lazy recently. Haven't done any of these in a while. So I did four today.

web page

web page

web page

web page

The first one was nice to do... Midday sun shining, everything completly still, found a perfect spot to sit.
The second was hell to do. But I had to. I saw the most beautiful golden light shine through the forest, casting these incredible long shadows. Everything was either completly golden, or completly black. The trouble was I had to race against the last rays of sun to hit the valley, sit on the soaked ground, and fight off mosquitos the size off small chickens. And I had no colors. Dang.
The third one was also a race against the sunset, shadows constantly changing.
The fourth was perfection. Just right. Everything. Just right.

So all in all I'm pretty happy.

C&C as always appreciated.

I'm really liking the trees. Tje texture of bark and leaves is working really well in ink. I didn't notice if you mentioned, but are you drawing from life or from photos...I suppose it doesn't matter, their good drawing either way, just wondering...

Damn... They are gone... hmmm.... I wonder, I wonder...

I think they're disappearing every now and then... but they seem to come back once in a while also... Something to do with 50megs.com... Gotta get myself a better webspace.

Shout out if you know any better webspaces.
