hey everyone,

just spent some time last night trying to refine techniques for digital painting. Love demon spooges style, very rough but when you step back, all the rough lines form together to create an image that has so much mood.

it's not the details that makes an image, it's the subtle changes of light. Our eyes don't focus on every detail we see. Trying to capture that feel in these paintings.

would love to hear some feedback from you folks.

I don't thin our new little member Mr Crowley knows what he is talking about. You have captured the feel realy good in my opinion. The two first once are my favourit pices. Damn great. And I would love to see you keep going on with those loose strokes....

thanks both for the comments.

andskj, i kinda see what crowley means about the roughness.

i think also knowing the subjects is key. Once i know the shapes and such, it's easier to focus on placing more deliberate strokes.

I redid the bonobo, spending about an hour on it, and already it's cleaner. I want to spend a bit more on it adding some detail work to the hands and the face, maybe just the face.

I think they are wonderful sketches... very alive and interesting. Taking them farther to a more finished state would also be wonderful and skillful. You've started doing that very well with bonobo...

now i like the gorilla's head very much
you could suggest fur and hair a little more.
I would do some hard edges to the body and also some strokes going outside of the subject's border(i hope you know what i mean 'cause my english is rather poor .
