very nice Sfr. Good to see you painting again, even though this has got to be the ugliest MF you have ever painted!
oh... and I would like to add 'poo eater' to that little list you got there... though I have no proof that Le pen really eats poo... hehe..

Jean-Marie Le Pen, being the respectable statesman he is, needs an official portrait. I'm sure he's glad I made him one, completely free!
I made this for kicks this afternoon, after I found a semi-rotting eggplant in my fridge and thought there was a certain resemblance...
Well, the caricature could be better for one thing (it doesn't look very much like him), but at least I somehow had lots of fun making this
(For the Americans: Le Pen is a French extreme right leader who's running for president, got a surprisingly high number of votes and managed to get into the second round of the election. The guy is a populist, racist, sexist, xenophobe, europhobe, homophobe, and was in charge of a brutal torture and murder squad in the Algerian war in 1957.)

I think it's really great that you're doing something with a political message. It's not common here to see art that makes a concious critique towards social or political issues. Very nice work, I love how you managed to make it look like traditional paint. Those colors are fantastic too

Very cool! It looks like you took Francis Bacon's ideas and evolved them to a more realistic style. Did you do all the texturey paint strokes in Painter? |

Thanks all! Le Pen seems to have lost the second round by a large margin - still, he had the same 18% of voters as before, that's quite much on its own...
Boom: I'm trying to start painting again, after this long break - let's see if I can keep it up, at least I posted in the speed painting thread today
Novacaptain: I don't really know, this picture is just a kind of mud throwing after all, it's not a very evolved political message... It would be more effective (and more difficult) to take a stance on the issues themselves, in some unexpected way - that would be good political art.
Kari C.: I didn't consciously think of Bacon, but you're right, there's a similarity (even though it's been a while since I've seen his works). Maybe he used vegetables as models too?
For the texture, I tried scanning the squashed eggplant after I had made the base painting. But it didn't come out well, the texture was too 3d so the scanner couldn't focus enough. I put some pieces of that scanning attempt as thin layers over parts of the image anyway, and then continued painting on top of that.

Sorry, but mockin' somebody by portraying as some kinda monster ain't no "concious critique". In fact the nazis used that method themselves. |

Well I guess not but it's halfway there, I for one, am so alienated in relation to politics i wouldn't even know who/what to throw mud at in the firs place. At least you're showing an opinion. I still think it may have some symbolical message like "The man being elected is the equivalent to an eggplant in terms of morality". But who are we to judge the eggplants?
