Just kidding
This is a marker drawing that I did for Roundeye's new contest. I am not really looking for technical critiques but if something in particular buggs you then by all means tell me. I just wanted to get all your opinions about it. Hate it, love it or just indifferent, I would really like to know what you all think. So if you see it and don't have an opinion about it, please tell me that you don't have an opinion about it. I really want to know.
Right now I am feeling like I just can't get my work to connect with people. I just feel that people think my work is mediocher at best. I know it's more then just technical, but what it is specifically, I just don't know.

It's okay. Don't be so down on yourself for not bringing in major feedback. Forums, like any medium, have diverse readers with diverse tastes, so you're not going to get hundreds of replies unless you're a well-known artist already, or a flamer. Multiple posts are the exception, not the rule. It doesn't mean you're not connecting.
My personal opinion is "blah". I hate saying this about artists, and generally don't post when I'm not impressed (which may be an indication of the greater population here, too). The number one problem is that it's a nice idea with a flat presentation. Dark theme. Happy colors. It is technical. Use the best tools, the best layout, for the job. In this particular case, create a more gothic mood. Fix the snow / water / background.
Please forgive this critique. I feel bad writing it -- my theory is, don't force advice on anyone with a lower member number than your own. Just one guy's opinion. |

It's technical... and also not.
As Little Bee pointed out, the coloring scheme is a bit weird.
The anatomy is a bit off too. If I see correctly, you seem to be aiming for a very nice anatomy style. Very energetic, very living, and somewhat "artsy". But you don't quite pull it off. Some areas just don't work. Other areas work very nicely(Feets\legs especially).
And... markers, at least of your kind, are seldom a good tool to use. Sure some people pull it off, but it's tough.
Then... unto those things that aren't technique related....
... well... It's a pretty disturbing image you've got there... really... but, as they say...
Whatever pops your lollipop.

When you think about it, the average person doesn't want to see a naked demon chick holding a bleeding heart, because the average person is... average. That may be why you don't feel your art is connecting with people. Although, to tell you the truth, I've been feeling the same thing with my art. Maybe you just don't have enough self-confidence.
I personally like it. I like the perspective and the anatomy (although the hand is a little big), and it's interesting subject matter. Mind explaining it? (actually, I bet I can guess the general meaning of it) |

Little Bee: I think you should post more often when you have negative feelings about a piece. I like to hear from people like you every bit as much as I would someone who likes what I did. And don't fret the numbers
Basse-Ex: Actually this is the most twisted image I have ever done. Thanks for pointing out the hand. I didn't realize I messed that up until after I had inked it. I thought maybe the colors and the heart might hide my mistake a little better then it did. Next time I'll watch out for things like that.
IByrn: Whatever you think it means is what it really means. It was my intention that it be totally subjective. I just simply wanted to get people to get a feeling and maybe think about what it means to them. In creating it, I just thought about art and beauty and how beauty can't really be apreciated without the beast to compare it to as well as how much blood, sweat and tears we as artists must sacrifice to create a thing of beauty. These were the images that came to mind so I just put them together.
Does anyone else have anything to say or to second what has already been said? |

i like the drawing i especially like the contrast of "happy" colors and a morbid theme. it makes it comical, i like it. imjust wondering...whos heart is that(its massive)? and who is the girl in the photo? also the hearts left side should be bigger than the right...and her left hand looks broken. i guess maybe she hurt her hand in battle? |
