Umm... Record of Lodoss War, if I have to go with a 'true' anime... Although that whold Dragonball/Dragonball Z/Dragonball GT thing did get me quite hooked.. Still, though, Lodoss War rules.. Especially if you like hot elf chicks (and who doesn't?)...

Slam Dunk rules! But most of it was panting and swearing (much like Dragon Ball), so I eventually lost interest in it. I also like Castle In The Sky and Princess Mononoke.

dunno gnome, you are gonna have to be a bit more explicit than just 'the badly dubbed/tranlated one', there are quite a few of those unfortunately :\ ....

nausica of the valley of the wind anime sucks so much ass, it's about 1/4 of the whole story, and cut and sliced to totally illogical order. the original books are MUCH better. don't bother with the anime.

Cowboy Bebop.

Big fan of Macross, never seen it. I know everything about it, though. When I was 16 I spent literally days in the www searching for stuff about it.

I've only seen Akira and Ghost in the shell, so I must say GITS. I think it would be my fav anyway. Shirow rocks.

Hmm..
FAv anime Movies:-
My Neighbour Totoro(This is my Fav from Miyazaki although I do love all his other works); Spriggan; Blood the last vampire; Ninja Scroll (still infinitely watchable IMHO); Jinroh; and Last but not least - Akira.

Fav Anime series:-
Bowboy bebop( everything in this series rules! Cant wait for the movie!)
Escaflowne (the Subbed - i heard the dubbed one wasnt done well and had some of the translation changed, but I'm not sure.. I've only seen the Subbed)
Lodoss Wars! (a must see)
Earthgirl Arjuna ( This is one is very new i dont know how many ppl has seen this, but the camera work here is awesome.. the quality is akin to big movie budget. The story reminds me of Princess Mononoke set in modern day Japan and the animation plus CG is incredible. One of Studio IG's new series.)
Kareshi Kanojo No jijou (Karekano) - This is a comedy with great story line.
Inuyasha - Watching this at the moment.. great story.. have seen till episode 33 there s alot more to come. Base from the same manga written by the author/artist as Ranma1/2.
InitialD - All you street car enthusiast and Gran Turismo would get a kick out of this series.. theres 2 seasons out.. and 2 movies spawned from this series. I think Series 3 is in the works. The Car races are done entirely in CG. Great compositing and blending of 2D and 3D. Cars on there.. range from Skylines, Rx-7s, Civics, Sylvias, Lancer Evolutions, S2000s, and the protagonist drives a suped up Trueno. Mad fun. the Music and soundtrack are fast paced. If u ever get the soundtrack and play it while driving.. U had better watch your speedometer hehe.
Macross Plus. man the aerial battles blew me away! This mini-series is just too kewl! one of my all time favourites. I never get tired of watching this.. pretty much its the TOP Gun of Anime.
Blue Sub No# 6 - This is The Hunt For Red October of ANIME.!! the 3D/CG models are just INSANE. The Story and mood of the series is pure adrenaline rush for SCI-FI fans everywhere. This isnt SeaQuest folks.

ah finally a subject i can relate to .

favorite anime:

cowboy bebop (along with everyone else)
neon genesis evangelion
rurouni kenshin ova
flcl

also have a special place in my heart for great shows like goldenboy, love hina, photon, etc. perhaps not groundbreaking, but nevertheless very fun and enjoyable anime.

on the other hand, i've seen a lot of anime that i feel are grossly overrated:

escaflowne tv series
princess monononononononoke
berserk
rurouni kenshin tv series
trigun

i also have a small anime site with anime reviews at http://canime.ciab.cc

Finally a post that I like

Akira (Love it and the manga moreso)

Vampire Hunter D (probably the coolest Character ever, although he is a stiff)

Princess Mononoke.

Ninja Scroll

Urutsuki Doji is also a guilty pleasure, if you skip all the porn stuff there is actually a decent story there.

I was an Air Force brat in Okinawa, Japan for pretty much most of the entire 80's decade, so I got spoiled on Mobile Suit Gundam, Macross, Dougram, Votoms, Gorg, Orguss and some stuff like Dr. Slump, Dragon Ball, Dirty Pair, and Fist of The North Star.
