very very nice, but 'anatomically' impossible, kinda like the blizzard sketches for SC, having oversized stuff here and there, but still, they're superb

and may i know for what game is this mod for? any relation to (neo?)nazis? coz i see a swastika

btw, wth is wacom?

Cool sketches!

But nevertheless IMO:

1st pic:

-the skirt is too static
-there seems to be a buckling on the left side of the skirt, well actually there's non but it looks like one

2nd pic:

-is the swastika really necessary??

3rd pic:

- is that guy able to grab his guns???

- actually the mod is for warcraft3. we are in proproduction seeing as how the game isn't out yet though. seems fitting that the concepts are similar to sc concepts

forgot I left that swastika on there. guys on the mod team were telling me to make it look more nazi'ish so I threw that in for grins.

- 1st one. the mysterious missing strap, good call, forgot it cause I was in a hurry. thanx. your right the skirt is to static

2nd one. absolutely not

3rd one. prolly not, but I bet he can reach a twinkie

looks interesting.

I would say, as a concept they're a good direction. as soon as I saw the swastika and the character himself, I'm thinking 'Return to Castle Wolfenstien'

I think they could be great improved if you made them more defined. If people are making these guys in 3D then they need as much info as possible.

these are great as first drafts, but they need cleaning up. do you have a light box there? or you could just work on another layer, I guess.

Are you going to colour them? texture artists will need a lead as to colours to use. why not give as much info you can to help them?

I would also suggest that it might be an idea to change your brush sizes for certain tasks. For example, just sample the background colour and go around the outside of your character with a thicker brush will make you look more presentable, erasing away any marks which do not help define the character, but only distract from it.

Using different size brushes also saves time. you could have done the shadow (?) on the second guy in a fraction of the time and a solid shadow would complement your character more than the one you have there.

if time is not on your side, then try using the marquee tool and then fill with you background colour (or your desired colour). something simple as doing that will make your work more striking.

Finally, it might be an idea to be more careful about your mark making. every line you put down is information as to what you are trying to present to us, so perhaps consider if a line is helping present the form or light the way you want it, or is just an uninformative squiggle for it's own sake?

these are all constructive critisims, so take or leave it as you see fit. Good luck! I hope it all goes well.

cheers
jez.

Hope that clears up the political oppinion issue that was accidently founded here

These are really cool sketches, and in my own oppinion I think you pretty much show them off in the order they improve

First picture: Very cool concept, although it took me a while to figure out that he was wearing a hood, and not an oversized forehead
Same thing, the shading on his mouth makes him look a wee bit like a chimp or something to that extent. Wether this is deliberate or not, I can't say, so feel free to poke me for that remark.

Second picture - Looks plain cool. I especially like the chains going over his chestplates. The shadow on the ground could do with a little work though. Reminds me too much of my own

Third picture - Looks a lot like "Baldur's gate I and II meet Quake II"
That's NOT necessarily a bad thing, especially seeing what you came up with.

This mod is making me rather curious... What would guys with gas-masks and cords and so on do in a fantasy world?

Hmmm....

woah, suniron, whatever you're smoking... stop.

nice pictures there, reminds me of duck's work, who is of course in turn inspired by blizzard.

in case anyone cares, the for many centuries the swastika was not a symbol of evil or racism. the nazis stole it.

i think it is of latvian origin.

once i saw a photo of a latvian standing smiling next to a huge swastika stone

WTF I thought !!!

Later she explained that they use it as an ordinary symbol and don't care about the former use by the germans.

thanx for all the great crits and comments. Keep in mind that these are just quick sketches to convey ideas. As the units are developed more I will post new, cleaner pics of them for you guys.

and for the record, the characters are not in a fantasy world, the world will be changed, its a total conversion of the warcraft3 engine.

I think its petty cool myself.

Why do people take such offense to a symbol? He's not sayin he is a Nazi. He is designing a character that has some relation to it. Nobody complained about Wolfenstein........nobody should complain about this.

Also, I think mentioned things like anatomy in cases like this is semi-redundant. Obviously, its his style, and doesn't need to be mentioned. If there are actually problems with the "fake anatomy" then mention those, and elaborate on ways to improve his style (which I am fine with, just making an example).

Just seems moot to me.

I dig these a lot......good job!

the swastika is backwords anyways. This one would be in relation to the ancient buddist/greek symbol rather than the nazi symbol.

I can't believe people are still talking about the swastika LOL! I didn't post that piece to try to stir people up. I threw it on there as a joke for my mod team members.

Also I agree (even though its my work hehe) about the anatomy comment. Anatomy is purposely wrong, it adds a cartoony style where certain parts are stressed to add more "character".
