That is so cool. But I'm curious: What is a kodama?
I figure it's that thing on your shoulder but I'm just not sure what it is |

Those little guys (from the anime Princess Mononoke) were very freaky. Very nice pic but it looks like there should be more reflective light off the white guy onto that side of your face. |

Nice picture. The features are very crisply picked out. Even though I have no idea what you really look like, this portrait somehow gives me the impression that it's a very good likeness just due to the clean execution of the piece.
Besides reflected white light on your face, if that kodama is supposed to be glowing, the jacket should catch a bit of the light too. |

'tikiktikitkitkitk - tikt' (the sound those creepy (but still quite cute) forest spirits make when the forest god appears. Mononoke is the best!
Nice and clean painting. The lower tip of the nose looks abit crooked, no?

quote:
Kodama means "echo" (its literal meaning is a "tree spirit"). However, since its name is written in Katakana, not in Kanji, it could also mean "small ball" or "small spirit". They (there are many, in various sizes and shapes) are a kind of spirit who live in the forest. Although Kodama (a tree spirit) appears in many Japanese folktales, Kodama as a little white creature is Miyazaki's creation.

yeah, i should've added the reflective light on the face and on the jacket but the light around the kodama was a last minute thing. XD lol

*Tilts head* *clicks*
Gotta agree with Suburi, if the Kodama is part of the portrait you need to integrate it with some reflected light since he sorta glows. Also it would help make the picture more dramatic, it's technically 'fine' but not very exciting! |

It has been much too long my friend, Suburi. I'm glad to see that you are here at Sijun. Hopefully I'll get to hear more from you and see what works you have been up to. ha... ha... ha... XD
I agree with all of their critiques. The nose does look a bit ackward, and adding that reflected light will really help add drama. hm. Still using oC or Painter? ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |
