Hi Janne!!
It's been a while, very nice to see a painting from you again

What could I say, it's lovely (and you can instantly tell it's Photoshop, that hard-edged scribbling - there's nothing wrong with that of course, quite the contrary). The large flat shape created by her hair draws a lot of attention, particularly with the brushy blend to the tree on the right - that part could still be worked on, I guess. Other than that, the level of detail is just perfect for my taste...

(yeah, just look at me - Mr. I-do-a-painting-every-two-years playing the art critique game, rather pathetic I'd love to hear what you're up to nowadays, drop me a mail if you feel like it!)

It has been a while janne, good to see you posting again.
This piece is fantastic man, gotta love the sharp strokes which contrast with the foggy fade outs.
Those oranges are awesome and pop her into focus nicely.
Am feeling that perhaps the lower third is a little too monotone and uniform brown. Maybe some faster lines in there, something a bit more distinguishable, though obviously not too much as you don't want to take away from her.
Excellent work mate

EDIT - looking again I'm not so sure about my crit anymore.

Really like it.
Strong atmosphere. It reminds me a celtic warrior queen...

I love it, as always great color choice and atmosphere... I like the blurry style. Your pics always look so artistic

I like it. The moody background really makes the piece. I'd like to see a bit more lighting in the figure though. Excellent piece anyways!

Happy happy joy joy!
Janne is posting again.
Nearly always love your stuff
-The dress looks very convincing, the blocky hair suits well.
Like it much how you manage to take the focus one her, seems kinda "dreamy".
Love your colors

hi all! sorry for the late reply. i'm currently doing my military service (compulsory in finland) and thus my time is awfully limited. that's the main reason i haven't been able to post as much as i would have wanted.
anyway, thanks for the feedback,

EviLToYLeT: thanks. yeah, feet are supposed to be hidden behind that root but that part of picture doesn't work too well. better planning next time...

Mr. T: tried something different, i'm glad it's working for you.

tyron: really?

sfr: hiya! thanks for the comments. tried to mail you but i'm guessing the e-mail address i got from your homepage might not be valid anymore... although it didn't bounce or anything. hope to hear from your soon.

Lukiaz: thanks for the critique. i don't know what to think myself either, this is all very experimental...

Vyle: thanks! didn't think of frazetta when doing this but i guess the point is valid.

davi: um, i would be satisfied with plain old verbal commentary if you will

theo: yeah, no homepage but feel free to browse that ftpdir Lukiaz posted if you like. be warned though, completely unsorted load of stuff there. and a lot of paintings that i'm not very proud of anymore.

gawain: very nice to hear that it reminds celtic warrior queen because that's pretty much what it is (well the legend is not exactly of a queen but anyway)

GeN: thanks. though i'm not sure what you mean by artistic

Lunatique: thank you! i haven't had this much fun painting in a long time...

SolarC: thanks. so is the figure's value range too dark or how would you go adding more light? i'm not sure myself...

silber: thanks for the kind words getting focus on the figure was my aim with this pic. nice to hear it's working.

Morbid Guy: thank you.

Was about to ask how come you had time to draw since you're at the army now, but I guess that question would be pointless. Nice that you 'released' the picture one weekend and came back to give comments the following (that's what the Finnish army does to you - you only have weekends off, and not really even all of them).

But way to go here! Reminds me of lighter shade of Cos's work. Also looks somewhat sharper than your older stuff, but that just might be the Painter vs PS thing. And is it 16bit, or is the rastering in the upper parts intentional?

How's stuff in general - eagar to get back to work eh? I can tell you we have some stuff so show you as well.

jr: hey thanks! have to admit that i've been very inspired by the way you paint with photoshop...
-
poxen: thanks, i like the hair too
-
Marvel: thanks mate! "rasterizing" you are seeing comes from a scanned acryl texture i used to liven things up a bit. sharpness is mostly due to photoshop and the bit different way of painting that is possible with it.

life is ok in general and army will be over soon enough, so i can start living my life again. i actually visited the offices last monday but didn't have the time to visit your side. too bad because i'm sure you would have a lot of very interesting new stuff over there. hopefully i can get another chace before beginning of july when military service will finally be over for my part...

how are you? have you been doing other than work related art stuff(hm, feel free to mail your reply if you think this is getting too OT)?

-

Janne - great painting. I like how her hair is 'burning'! Nice lighting not only because of that. Rock on! And congrats to leaving the army soon - I know your pain!

hey Saffron! Cool to see you're still around!
