I like the layout! but the colors need to blend a little! try using some slightly more compatable shades of the colours you have. It seems a bit harse to me! otherwise it's a good design.
On a second look it might just be the white background that's doing it! What color is the main wep page to be?

i aint commenting on the crappy orange colours (hint, hint) until you fix that logo. (make it a vector not a bitmap straight from photoshop...hint hint)
thing that sux about colour scheme is that you kinda havta, gut you dont havat use the colours of the phoenix.
i think you should go with some greys..silvers....and then maybe highlight them with yellows and oranges.
just the orange you use now is bland |

I think you've got a very strong design here -- someone in another thread said that the most crucial thing is recognition. At any distance, the design is clear and the logo is present without being obtrusive. I imagine logging into a site like this and having several columns of links, tutorials, comments and technological updates. Seems very business-tech looking. Perhaps this is not what you want to convey, but it is good nonetheless. My eye is drawn around the border to the white center, so viewers will find the navigation comfortable. Or maybe that's just me.
As for the claws, I would leave them in. Same effect as the logo -- present but not invasive. Obtrusive. Whatever. |

I definitely like where you are going with that design. I'd love to see what it looks like when you turn it into a functional page. Definitely a nice original style!

Thanks for the help guys. I still can't figure out what to do with the colors just yet, its kind of a 50/50 thing going on here. Some people like it, others don't. I'll make sure to post a more complete version when that time comes, maybe that way the colors will settle in better and people will be able to decide.
If someone could enlighten me with vector images. It might sound dumb, but im not really sure how to do it and what the difference is? |

Maybe it's not my place to advise on vectors, since I know virtually nothing myself, but both Flash and GoLive support them -- if you're using Photoshop to create your images, you will probably find GoLive much friendlier, and I think files can be interchanged in Illustrator and so forth.
Basically, instead of taking image maps and compressing them, vector images use a color-point system -- so no matter the physical size of, say, a red blob, it will always stay at a minimal file size.
Barring vectors, just compress your image into a GIF, which works similarly but is also easily compatible in HTML.
Just experiment with the colors until you can "squish" the image down to ten or twenty colors. That will save you oodles of space and will be ultra-nice on modems.
Just some ideas. Other folks will know much more about it. |

Personally I like the colors, you don't see too many websites with such brilliant colors... Have you tried muting them down a bit? Great layout though, especially with the claws. Unique.
I've got to get to work on my own website, it's on my to do list but it keeps getting pushed back. |

I'm contemplating wether or not to add animation to my site. I know if done correctly it can add to the layout, but most of the time it can ruin everything. What are your thoughts and experiences on animation? |
