Love them, you have a really great handle on difinitive/expressive messy style of work. I am envious. Do you plan the images, sketch them several times or do you go Gun-ho and work on an insperation.

This first knife fellow is the coolest, imho.. it's obvious that a guy with that hairdo and face just can't help stabbing himself and still remain so relaxed and calm.. Great work! |

Please leave your impressions, crits, comments below! I was accepted into a "goth festival", which is intimidating, and I want to have a good idea of what everyone here thinks before showcasing it there.
Three images available.
BTS "Wheelchair"
BTS "Explode"
Special thanks to everyone who has responded already!

I won't comment on the drawings as much because like everyone else stated here they are wonderfully expressive ... however I will ask a stupid question :
How are they better than sex |

Thank you all so much for the amazing response!
To answer the biggest question, I do to some degree know what I want to "paint". My method is strictly no-brush. I let the dropper dollop its way around the paper, using my mouth and fingers for the rest. India ink. Sometimes blood (j/k). Since ink is a virtually uncontrollable force, I have to let things splat.
Ralph Steadman has deeply, deeply influenced me. My first beer was a Flying Dog, even, just because he did the label art.

Shannan - I think it refers to television/movie censorship. Where it seems that people are okay with children seeing violence and goor rather than seeing something of sexual in nature.

Heh... Here in Norway we look at the violence\sex\nudity thing a little differently. Growing up in the 80's you really couldn't avoid seeing tons of childrens films all featuring, at one point or another, some sloppy, naked, adult butt(Preferably while the person owning the butt was jumping up and down in a water\sea, or some other very "fre" and 70's kind of thing). But, I never got tired of it, adults buttocks were hilarious to me. Laughed my ass off everytime(Pardon the pun).
I've also seen full frontal nudity and moderate swearing on childrens TV on our lovely government owned channel.
Violence on the other hand, has traditionally been censured here alot.
The only sexual thing we seem to have a problem with is porn. No genitals in movement allowed. Erections too. Although both have started to be allowed in "serious" films, like Von Triers "The Idiots"(?), and that one kinky japanese film from the 70's with the cucomber. All in all I'd say we have a pretty OK censurship system here.
(Since the subject of this post doesn't really belong here, I'll be so naughty as to post it both here and in the "Sex and Violence in the Media" thread. Hope nobody minds)
(Nice pictures by the way) |
