Reading the thing about Lumental depressed the heck out of me. I think i can live without it. In life there's assholes every where, on the bus, in the family, in the ass .... lets try to live through it.
So from now on, lets have a whole new beginning.
btw, wohoo 700 post! 720 here i come!

Oh yes laugh and be merry "ooo look I got 700 hundred posts"
huh huh a breached 900 exactly and then the server decided it was time for me to leave!!.
Buuuuuuuuuuuut seriously. I'm in pure agreement Dr.
Though this forum returning to its former glory is highly unlikely.
Oh how I wish it would, I remember when there was 1/5 the people and a nice warm atmosphere where the few seemed to know each other and take pleasure in conversing/critiqing etc.
Truthfully I was thinking how nice it would be to open up another forum and invite several people over.
only prop is....how does one regulate new members without seeming like a *insert word*?.
My idea of a great forum would be to have it as it was here 12 months ago. Only thing is people start flooding in, how do you stop this without seeming like a *insert word*?.
I would love a little forum with a few hundred who I could get to know better and we we would all become net buddies. But newbies come streaming in and soon those who you new are gone....new people come...you get to know them....and they dissapear, mainly due too the constant influx of utter arse that we see so frequently.
I really can't see any other option except for the two we are talking about.
Sijun's and this Lunamental forum.....one way it eventuates in what where seeing here or two....well you only have to read the thread to see the response.
So who's got the smart idea's....WHERES THE HAPPY MEDIUM?? |

Well, I hope Sijun will work out after all.
I think I'll have a talk with Dhabih about other moderators - I think that could help.
It's impossible to keep track of the forums AND have a life on the side... not with this many members at any rate.

Yeah, I have to say, I loved it back when it was just the few of us, about 50-100ish.
(yeah my account was messed up too, and I still can't get my original back..I wonder how long it takes to die).
What do you like better, being first in line for a ride at disneyland, or having to wait for the 300 people in front of you? (most of which probably wanted to go on the OTHER ride, but are just trying this one because its new and exciting) The answer is pretty obvious, and while we can't really avoid it, we have to live with it, it just won't be what it used to be.
But it's not all that bad. |

Enayla, do you think having Faust as a moderator would be good? IMHO you seem a bit too soft |

*shrugs* I don't like being mean to people. I've never been that kind of person.
I don't see how being rude will help against rude people. If I /could/ delete members because I felt they were REALLY disbehaving, I would, but that's not what I'm supposed to do here.
I do what Dhabih asked me to do.
As it is, yes, I am way too soft to be the only active moderator in, say, Random Musings - Sumaleth doesn't come here a lot. But I'm not changing my personality. I like me ;) |

Heh, that's one happy kid. I'm with ya on the new beginning dr.bang.
Enayla, do you think more moderators is going to help? While it can't hurt, I suspect it might be more constructive to the community if the existing moderators had wider powers --specifically the ability to ban trouble-makers.
Personally, I don't have any problems skipping over offensive posts --but 4600+ registered members does seem to change the rules some.

I'll be a moderator...hahahaha
but seriously...hahahahaa
I think at least one more would help.
but I also think banning would be a tricky situation....First Tell them to leave.
(whitch didn't work on Happy Man)
Then ban. Ban Happy Man. |

Pat: Banning would be nice... Of course, in other forums where you CAN ban, it can sometimes cause a lot of trouble. A couple more moderators would be very nice though. *shrugs* But it's hard to enforce rules when the only thing you can do is shut down threads or delete them. |

Enayla, banning can cause ALOT of fear to all the ahole posters. I've been messing around with some non-art related forum, it was always a mess, many act stupid. But from the time the admin has a new ban policy, I start to write like a Shakespear!
We should give it a try instead of just sitting here and predict stuff. |

I'll try to get the time to write Dhabih tomorrow, I promise.
See if we can clear this mess up somehow.
I really don't want this forum to go down the drains... I think there is so much left to salvage. |

Cop whip?
No thank you. If I'm going to be a heroine, I'll be one because I'm a nice person, not because I try to be a bully.
If it takes being a bully to be a moderator here, I'd rather not. I don't think the answer is turning the few moderators into fascists, but rather something else.
I'd have to sit here till my eyes bleed to be able to pull something like that off anyway =P |

Enayla, do you think, under the current circumstances, that creating a friendly environment, and an automatc deletion of violent/harmful threads would help Sijun's current predicament? |

Enayla--I don't think you'd have to be a bully to whip this place into shape(what's up with all the references to whips?). Lines has to be drawn so chaos doesn't take over. If we can have a happier community here by cracking the whip when the need arise, it's really worth it. I mean, seriously, we don't want the trouble-makers here anyways. There's NO harm in closing pointless/mean/angry/irritating threads that causes nothing but bad feeling for everyone here. Even though this forum doesn't allow banning, closing threads before they really catch on fire would help tremendously. As I said in another forum, the moderators should take action at the first sign of trouble. Don't let the bad threads grow in size and have everyone pissed off before taking action. I understand having only 3 moderators is really hard since there are thousands of people the come here.
If Dhabih agrees to more moderators, I think Pat is a good choice. He has the maturity and the ability to be decisive and swift. A few of the now Lumental members would have my vote too, but I'm not sure if at this point they'd want to come back to moderate. Rinaldo's sense of right and wrong would make him a good moderator too. He has my respect for doing what he did. |

*Sigh*
I'm not sure what would help.
I moderate under the rules I've been given by Dhabih - and that did not include going around closing threads I know might turn into flames... Like I said, I'll talk to him. I do believe that stricter moderation would help. I do believe that a moderator more or two would help. When I say I won't be cracking any whips, that means I won't be behaving like I've seen moderators behaving in other places.
And in all seriousness... this forum is huge. If I wanted to try to close every thread that threatens to turn into a flame, I would be doing nothing else. There's also that small fact that if I go around closing threads, who's to say that the flamers don't just post more, and more, and more. I love Sijun but it's not the only thing I do with my life.
I don't have all the answers. It's not my site. |

like poprocksz said. might be good to hold some sort of election for more moderators. i suggested this in socar's thread actually.
i'll even offer to be one. i have no life right now (no school or work)plus i try not to have a biased opinion of people, but anyway.. we should let the people here choose who they would want. |

I wish I was a moderator then I'd boot everyone off and talk to myself, that is until I got sick of myself and BAN MY PUNK ASS! That'll teach me.
Its all about freedom love and respect. And faygo. You can't make an omelette without torturing a few eggs. You can't have freedom with boundaries. What is the square root of an orange? You can't say racism sux lets have oldskoolism. Do I make myself clear.
Or maybe you just need to smoke more weed. |
