This is my battle cruiser that I painted on top of a maya model that I made (very basic). Its final. What do you think? C&C welcome.
Rav
PS it seems that the stars got lost in the resizing from 1280x1024. Just a note
This is the final image
This is close to what it started as.
Thanks
Rav

It might be cooler if the model was not so very boxy, but had more rounded or angular edges that seem to flow in a more aerodynamic manner.
The glows are pretty cool, but seem a bit heavy.
Over all this is awesome. Great work, and great design. |

now why would a space ship have to be aroedynamic?
100% that beast wouldn't havta land on any planets. So make them as boxy as your imagination likes..
one thing bothers me... the big glowing tube gun on the side of the ship. is there one on the other side too? cuz i can't see it. and if there isn't...then this is one valnurable ship. |

I think the whole thing is slick. The planet behind the ship gives the cruiser massive weight; it blows up the scale of the entire painting. Nicely handled!

First of all, that's nice.
Just a couple of things.
The planet has like a glow around it, is that an atmosphere or just a lens effect?
it seems a little too big, though I'm no expert. looks like a Mars texture on the planet, is that right?
Some of the geometry on the 3D model seems to have been lost or misinterpreted in your paint over.
in response to a previous point about the aerodynamics, I agree that the a large spacecraft wouldn't need to be aerodynamic, it's just for aesthetic reasons really. |

Nope. There is only one gun... its a planet destroying gun. Do you really need two?

Ive been trying to explain this to people for god knows how long...
Ravenblack: I sense some perspective annoyances....but its still a nice pic. Lunatique gave some good advice so I wont regurgitate. |

Thank you all for your C&C... I see the pictures issues, which it has a few major ones. Here's the final pic. the lights I could change... some of the detail I should have spent more time on, espicially looking at the actual (pratical) engineering part of the ship hull, but overall, for my second paintover I've ever done, its always a learning experience.
Special thanks to Lunatique for a good critique.
This site rocks!

Here are some things I noticed.
1)lights don't really glow like that. get rid of the glowy stuff and you'd end up with a more convincing spaceship.
2)There are many different colors used for air traffic(and I'd assume the same for space traffic). Try some red, blue, yellow. Different colors will make it more realistic.
3)the glowing white lights--what are they for? When you design something, even sci-fi or fantasy, you have to think about how it functions and if it's practical. That extra effort is what makes excellent designs instead of ok designs.
4)all the little lines you put on the ship look like jigsaw puzzle pieces. Are they realy necessary? Once again, THINK about your design before you start detailing. |
