because it doesn't look like a human. the eyes are too far apart, like a fish. you need to work on the forms of the face. it looks kinda flat right now, looking at reference will help out your drawing, you have to walk before you run. you know what i mean? work from reference and see what happens.

Ther's a strong feeling of sadness getting from it.
For myself, I think it DOES look like a human. Anyway, I think that self portrait and portrait in general depict more a state of our mind than our real face.

You should rework the lighting, I think.

Yeah do what Jr said or better yet get a mirror. Use big brushes with a hard edge to get a feeling of it being a solid mass occupying a space. Look for your darkest dark and your lightest light and try to work out everything in between instead of just using smooth gradations of value that don't really exist. And go read the notes on painting by Sargent on www.Goodbrush.com. They are under Miscellaneous and are really helpful. They will tell you everything you need to know in order to paint like a badass. Of course you have to practice but at least you'll know what to practice. Hope this helped

Don't mind about the people who can;t understand you.I really feel that it's a great work! The strong emotion in your portrait moved me greatly.especially the eyes of you are impressive. You know,I'm not fond in ture-life,I love surrealism. And it's what I interested in your work.

Probably a good idea to try and get line work down prior to trying to paint directly to create your shapes. It's a very difficult task to jump into digital painting if you haven't mastered the basics of line art.
