Hiya!
I've been enjoying the art on this site for a while, and finally gathered together enough guts to post and ask for an honest critique.
Zero formal training, but I have sat through art critiques of others, and seen what goes on there, so feel free to rip it apart. I'm pretty happy with it in general, but the sword blade frustrated me, and I punted somewhat on the lighting so I could make the fellow on the right look more recognizable. Comments? Thanks in advance.

crazyness!
i like the little dragons head on the handle of the sword and the fact that the anthro is wearing a necklace. only thing that bothers me about this pic is the blue/purpal in the anthros mouth, its a bit confusing seeing as how her nails and backpack are close to that color. maybe make the tongue more flesh-colored? anyways, cool pic and welcome to the forum! keep em coming.

It has some good realistic forms to it, but the shadows maybe feel a little soft, especially if that lantern is the only light source.
Also the claws look a little flat, feel like they need more dimension.
Interesting pic. |

First off, thank you all for posting - didn't imagine I'd get this much feedback. On the praises - thanks! And on the criticisms, I have a few questions:
1) The purple tongue thing is pretty valid. I didn't think much of it until I checked this forum at work...and the picture looked about 50% brighter, with the tongue now appearing as far more of a bright neon. Oops. Guess my home monitor is ultra-dark. Are there any kind of monitor/color syncing standards for this sort of thing?
2) The soft shadow thing is REALLY valid. I can do either soft or hard shadows, but when I attempt to combine the two in images, it falls apart for me. Can someone please recommend a good book/online primer on shadows or shading/lighting? Other than a few wildlife books, I own no reference material.
Sword is from the first Highlander (the fellow in the pic owns an ultra-sharp replica in RL), so yeah, it's probably in 3, too. Didn't see it.
And on the 'evil twin' thing - amazingly enough, except for the obligatory Dali-style 'evil' moustache, I look exactly like Dhabih, follow him around, frame him for crimes, replace his soft drinks with castor oil, that sort of thing.
