Hi everyone!
I don't think many remember me, I used to post here regularly back in 1999-2000. Well, I just stumbled on this place again and got terribly nostalgic.
I have painted practically nothing for over a year (not on computer, much less in real media..), but I got my Wacom back a few days ago, so I thought I'd give it a try again. The result is a mess, but I'll post it anyway because the memories of this forum inspired me, and anyway it's often healthy to be embarrassed in public
(btw - I think this image has some brightness problems due to my monitor. All I have at the moment is a garbage-dump 17", which seems to give badly washed out colors at the dark end... So it quite possibly shows up too dark on your monitor, or maybe even too light, I have no idea... not that it matters all that much)
A cover image for "Tahitian Skin Diseases, vol. 1" maybe?
(btw - although I'm posting this in "finished work", any kind of criticism and constructive comments are of course welcome)

Saffron!$&%$&*@$ Demo scene god, and personal idol.
Dude, you really gotta update your page. I miss seeing your stuff, and unless you post on Sijun (which is VERY rare), everyone misses out.
Alright, I'm gonna stop sounding like a giddy schoolgirl now. I've always loved your painterly style, and this piece is no exception. I like the "chunky" strokes you have. I also like the warm/cool contrast that seems to be evident in almost all your stuff. The African woman is a powerful subject on its own, but with all the dark shadows, it really gives it impact.
Awesome. Man, post more! |

I definitely remember you. That baby picture you did way back when is still one of the best things I've seen here. I remember that you were the first person I had ever seen use such a unique, abstract painterly style. I've always loved your work, and this is no exception. A little less polished than your usual, but the color is great and I love the overall mood. Keep it up, I love to see these. |

Great pic. The background is gorgeous. Simply gorgeous.
There's a strange shadow on her left shoulder- or maybe that's hair? In any case it doesn't distract much but seeing how light things are behind her, it caught my eye as being a bit out of place. Painter or P-shop? |

I remember you... and welcome back. I've been away awhile myself
the colours don't seem washed out to me, but i am also viewing on a "garbage dump" 17"... so i can't say for sure.

sfr: Welcome back. Wow, member 330... woohoo! I feel young again...
Really nice pic! I think perhaps the eye's are a bit far apart, but otherwise I the shading & colours are really nice.
Is this done in Painter? I've had problems with washed out colours using Painter which I whine about frequently... (hehe, bad workman blames his tools). So it might not be the monitor.
Hope to see more stuff from you soon. ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Yeah, people like Saffron had a huge impact on this forum. I remember dodge and burn was like "the" way to paint until we started seeing these painterly styles. |

Hey Saffron.
A little unusual from your older normal stuff, I'm not too fond of the over usage of the blacks here, but still pretty nice.
You need to paint more stuff! Update your webpage..or something =) |

Welcome back old man. |

The tone is PREFECT on my monitor, and being in the graph biz, it's set to industry standard. Maybe you intended it to look lighter, but it looks awesomely perfect to me. Dark, but not TOO dark at all.
Great skills by the way!

Well, the only stuff I can remember of yours was that thread you posted a while back looking for work. Other than that, I'd never seen your stuff before. You must've disappeared for like 3 years. ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

I'm replying really late, this Easter thing came between you know, and I had to perform a traditional ritual involving travel and dead sheep...
Thanks a lot for all the friendly replies, it's really nice to see so many familiar (virtual) faces are still around And still posting good stuff, I see from the brief look I've had around here!
java: another Sunflower demo will probably have to wait until our private detective has located Wojtek, possibly lost somewhere in the Polish countryside
binke: I don't know what you mean, the histogram says there's no black here.. just a very big spike at around 20 err, yeah, it most likely drifted to such dark values because I didn't have a good sense of what I was doing.
I'll try to start painting again, I'm not quite sure why I stopped it because I like it. Sometimes things just go a particular way with no conscious decision...
henrik: those were the days though at the age of 21, I'm not sure if I enjoy being called an old man already, but I guess I could return the favor to you

Hi Saffron!
I've always liked the stuff i've seen from you. Please post more! If anyhow possible I'd specially love to see the pictures seen in your endless zoomers at contour and in your animation was it at assembly 95 or what? 8)
