Thanks to everyone who helped out at the WIP section.

Mini half-baked tutorial:

Firstly i made a A color sketch using a photo reference, i took the liberty to change some things around to make it all more interesting...This step was easier now that i've done a few pictures for the "speed painting" thread to practice.

I used the callighaphic brushes a lot...they're quite nifty since you can change their sizes around with the [ and ] keys. The spacing/angle of the brushes is interesting to fiddle around with too.

I made a custom brush for the grass so that i wouldn't have to spend too much time painting straws.

I put the color sketch on theWIP section of the forum asking how to make it look hotter.

Following their suggestions i kept on going for a few hours until i got to this. Which was pretty close to the final image:

Details:

The custom brush:

The vegetation:

The Pajero:

Please comment, critique and give suggestions and there's no need to spare my feelings.

[edit] original resolution = 3000x1800 pixels
And the grass brush is actually 500x500 pixels

i like this quite a bit. one thing that struck me was how "photographic" it looks. i think it might have been more dynamic if you had left some areas a little more sketchy. i looked at your rough sketch from the WIP section and i think some of your initial energy was lost. maybe keep the intense detail on the truck and have the vegetation gradually become more and more painterly as you move away from it... anyway, just a suggestion. it works pretty well as is. the composition is solid.

Wow, that looks sa-weet!
The grass is so green and the sky is so nice! I wish I lived there . Wonderful picture. I like the ratio too, adds a little touch of dynamic-ness to it. Great job!

Yes sir, you deserve it.
Just some color suggestions, I'm not saying this is what you want.

EDIT: I recall you saying you wanted a hot day look. I think a yellow/red tone with low contrast makes it really hot. Maybe too hot?

Nice brush work. Very "Mullinesque" of you.

I think you did a fine job and the bright green foliage adds an almost tropical feel to the piece, which I love.

Take it easy,
M

That is hotter!
It's just an exercise...i took a photo and changed the conditions to "hot" I'll try following your advice to make it into "hotter" as well.

Afterwards, maybe i'll set fire to the vegetation and melt the car hehe

I think i'm getting closer to understanding the importance of leaving the unimportant stuff out of the picture.

Thank you so much Henrik, I've gotta dig up more photographs to work with.

It's so nice to have a number of "mysterious mentors" where i would normally have none...

Wow, great piece of work, it follows the actual trend (that isn't meant negative). Nice details. I think for a hotter feel the contrast (brightness / darkness) could be a bit stronger.

looks great. i think the moutain on the far right side that seperates the plane from the background greenery is key... adds a lot of depth to the picture. nicely done, and i think the painterover that whoever did helps a lot, you should consider what he's done to make it look hotter as you were going for in the wip.

ok, This is hotter! I think it's a little "blurry" with the low contrast however. It felt kinda strange doing this, it seemed like the opposite of what I thought was the "right" thing to do.

[edit]I added detail to the sky
