ohh... I have to agree with jabber here. When I make a logo, I often spend hours scribbeling and drawing on sheets befor taking into illustrator. Keep in mind that a logo should work for large prints, as well as on a really small object. If I had shown this to my teacher, she would have killed me.

The contrast between the logo and the text is to low, and the logo is to complex.

"More is less".....

A friend of mine asked me to make a logo for him. I really don't know why he asked me since i'm really not that great with photoshop but here's what I came up with. I normally go overboard with details and little stuff so i tried to avoid that here. This isn't based on anything specific except the name (my friend just said, "make a 'cool' logo"... any comments?

ps i saved it with a really bad quality.

usually for logo design, there are some considerations the artist will want to take into account. these are based off of logo design for corporate illustrations i think, and will usually be used across multiply mediums.

1.size, is the logo distinguishable at many different sizes? (i.e. small, medium, large)

2. greyscale, is the logo discernable in greyscale like in newspaper print.

3. simplicity, will people easily recongnize a logo, (think of nike, pepsi, IBM, very simple.)

4. does the logo somehow tie into the company, person and what they do, represent.

just some ideas in logo creation. there are a lot more, but it would be better to look at some marketing design books for those i think.

its a pretty niffty looking logo, but i think its a bit over complex, and the text is a bit difficult to see. mostly when i look at it, im thinking, what is it? rather then oh, its a dj logo that makes sense. it could still work though i think. just needs some fine tuning.

hmmm.... my Communications Technology teacher would have cut my balls off if i showd him that. But.. the logo somewhat works... you created that cool look that you see on rave fliers. But the logo should be vector based with two colours in them. Try it out if you have time. in the future consider Jabber's rules. thats some words of wisdom and i couldn't sum it up any better than that.

I played around with your idea for a while.. I didnt really get anything I liked... But If you want to download a Illustrator version let me know.. here is what I got.

Good luck,

PS Listen up to what Jabber says.. Those are pretty solid guidelines for a logo. Also find out what kinda of DJ he is and what things he associates with.. Try to include symbolic reference.. I kind of like the idea I got that looks sort of like an eye... anyhow good luck

A logo should be a 2 color vector image. The 2 colors include a background color and a design color.

An example is this (although this is a raster image for the web) CITDE.

i kind of played around a bit with your original idea (sort of in the direction DeathJester was heading). a logo really should be simple, so it can be used at almost any size, in many different ways, and can be easily reproduced.

however, i've noticed that most DJ logos and graphics are cluttered messes. so maybe this looks a little too clean and designerly.
