very cool idea. i agree with tek9z, need more space. I'm guessing that your not done, so I would suggest the following:
more textures needed, espcially on the feet. the crack in the statue parts should be defined a little more. the shadows might be stronger on the face in this kind of environment with that sun. same with the feet.
really cool idea. i hope you develope this further. |

It has sort of a "Planet Of The Apes" feel to it, hehe.
About the composition I'd say that perhaps wider would be good, but you could also think vertically. Imagine the canvas being twice as tall, with the figure twisting and streching in the air as seen through a fisheye lens, with just a bart of its' body covering the rayes of the sun.
Just some input.
Good stuff!

Yeah, great colours, especially the purple hue in the sky above the horizon. I think there should be a few more cracks in the statue, but they should be a lighter colour as well. The dark brown colour they are at the moment makes it too obvious that they're painted on. |

Thanks for the crits. I liked the broader format idea, I think I might play around with that. About the textures, I see that the stone needs some. I was hoping to do without them but I suppose no textures just make the statue look unfinished. It's cool that some of you have done this as a school project, I'd like to see your images.
Just to clear things up, I did not do this for a school project. I got this idea while searching for victorian poetry and art on the internet. Also I am not in the 11'th grade. |

very nice! Great idea!
A more cinemascope aspect radio would benefit you painting I agree, this looks very much like something taken out from a movie. I really like it!
Some suggestions on making it feel more a part of the same scene.
Watch your perspective! The two feet does not seem to be widely seperated and seem too close to each other. I think it would be better to move the right foot further towards and to the right. A great statue like this would probably be positioned in a more 'open' stance.
Also use atmosphere to create depth. The head in the distance is too contrasty and too detailed. It ruins depth and distance. Put in some of the colors from both the sand and the sky in the head. The head will pick up much color from those elements, almost eliminating local color.
The cracks seems very 2d'ish plastered on top of the feet and head. Make them follow the form of the shapes more. And make them more subtle...
Just a few ideas. You can go on and on but I'll stop for now Keep up the good work!
