Hi,
I have waited for a while to post this, but since the results are now posted on Dons' site I guess it's quite ok to show this outside the contest pages...

I choose to paint the Yeti since I had an urge to paint a large scene with rocks and snow so the contest came quite in handy for pushing the image forward...

This is the small text that I wrote to accompany the painting:

'I painted this painting from a very rough outline of an idea I had. The deer was put in as a second thought to give the image a better 'story'. The actual pose also went through a couple of refinements while I was painting. I used Painter 6.1 for this whole painting session sketch to final. Took around 30 hours or so to complete and the original size is 3300*4700 pixels.'

As you can see at Dons' site my painting didn't win. Not that I expected it to win since I knew alot of highprofile artists wanted to participate also... Better luck next time!

Comments welcome!

That's a really good painting!
You obviously put a lot of effort into that one.

If it's any comfort, I prefer this one over most of the other entries, though there were some other great pieces. The winner is OK, but come on... It's both artistically and technically inferior to many of the other entries, IMO. Not that the winner is a bad piece... It just doesn't appeal to me.

Great pict!!!

Your picture is technically and artisticly better than most of the other entries in my oppinion, but I guess the judges must have thought differently.

The only thing that I am not sure about in your picture is the lack of color. It looks very monotone.

The winner is me. I actually liked some of the other pieces more than my own. Like the Yeti one on the end of the list with the really big feet. The one on this page is really well done too, in my never too humble opinion. I think mine fits under the category of "alien visitor."

There are a lot of decent things here but the first thing that bothers me is the creature's right arm, it just looks poorly structured. Look at a bit more primate anatomy if you agree it needs resolving.

hmmm... let's see here, this Pasakievich guy (the winner) is an art student at BYU. Seegmiller currently teaches art at BYU. Seems like a little nepotism going on here, in my humble opinion. At the very least, this contest is a bit shifty.

whoah... lots of nice comments guys! thanks alot! makes me feel warm and curly inside!

Ko - thanks alot! Yes, I did take my time with this painting. Far more than I usually do, thats for sure. But I actually had a great time painting this and it gave me the urge to paint even more detailed... lol, silly me!
Hyptosis - thank you!
JayceeL - thank you! Yes it is quite monocromic. Some have even said it slightly reminds them of a chinese painting style...
itchi - heh! true! And thanks!
Magic Pen - ... everybody has one... So true! Thanks for the nice words!
Wigin - I agree, I also wish that Don would have commented each picture with a little text on how he viewed each enty and what made him pick the winning image. Guess he has to little free time...
pasakievich - congrats! I will beat you next time
Wienerbot - I agree with you to a certain degree. But the heavy fur does cover up what construction lies beneath. Not to excuse mistakes or anything, eh-heh!
Cartman - whoah, watch out with the accusations plz. I can surely see why Don would like that winning entry. Alot of the paitings/images at Dons' site are cartoony stuff so it's quite obvious that he fancy this 'lighter' feel. Maybe even more than a heavy painting like mine or Leos' (which, I think is damn fine!)

Again, thanks for the nice comments!

HOly SMOKES!!...nice pic but the anatomy looks weak...his leg looks a little flat...the knee area particularly...a LOT of those entries were freakin incredible though ...what were the rules/criteria of the contest??? i hope im never as knowledgeable about art as the judges for this contest...it's like the opposite of the eatpoo judging results

Boom..

Damn man!

That's gotta be one of your best paintings! I love it! I wouldn't change a thing, polish and adjust too much and it will loose that that 'edge'..

I could easily put that on my wall, no doubt.

Many strong entries for the contest, but yours is clearly the best in my opinion.

Way to go!

jr - heh, yeah I can easily understand you
Christer - thank you very much! You are still one mail behind I reckon Keep in touch!
Malachi - Thank you!

Overall I feel very happy reading all these nice posts. I know there are flaws in the painting and things that could be different or corrected but overall I am pretty comfortable with it as it is and I had a really good time painting it, which is not allways the case...

thanks again for the many posts!
