Yes, man can survive without meat. But to do so, he must consume copious quantities of other food to get the same vitamins etc that he would get from a much smaller portion of beef or pork.
i dont like the idea of bullfighting or dogfighting either, but i must say something on the topic of 'why eat meat?'
above someone mentioned why dont we eat dogs instead of cattle? i believe that is because dogs have been used by humans as trackers and companions and the like for many, many years now. Thus, humans were not keen on eating an animal that had other obvious uses rather than a food source. However, cattle have not been considered to be much else than a food source for centuries (i speak generally, sorry if ive offended any ppl out there who keep cows as pets =) ) and so that is why we eat beef rather than dog meat (for lack of better phrase). It is the same with pigs, and chickens. They are primarily a food source, and so that is what the human race uses them for.
Now, on that note, the animals should be treated fairly and killed humanely in my opinion. I have no arguments there. Its just that people say that cattle etc. shouldnt be used as food, but that is what they were created for. A food source.
To all those vegetarians out there, im not forcing my opinions down your throat, so relax. Im just trying to have an intelligent discussion on the topic. So respond in such a manner, please, and lets not have any useless and childish flaming.
lets keep it clean, ppl |

Killing animals? Long ago we had to do that to survive? or at least have meat anyways...
Nevertheless, seeing that terrified look in those bull's eyes further reinforces my view of how unfair life is, survival of the fittest...the weakest suffer, It's the truth.

I'm sorry, but no. Mankind wouldn't be forced to consume copious quantities of other food to get the same vitamins. I'm not a vegan (I'm a vegetarian) but I know several people who are. Most of the things that you find in meet that your body might need, you can find just as well in different kinds of vegetables.
I once heard someone say, that if we stopped eating meat, then we would all eat so many vegetables that there would be no room left to grow them... thing is that the enormous fields used to feed cattle could well feed humans quite as neatly - with different plants, of course. A cow eats a whole lot of food. If the fields used to grow "cow food" would instead be used to grow food for people, we'd have more than enough. But I digress. If people want to eat meat, that is their choice - I honestly don't mind that much. But the people who would not, physically, be able to handle becoming vegetarians are very few. The world wouldn't go under if mankind stopped eating meat. On the other hand, I doubt that will ever happen - we all have very different priorities. Couldn't well ask a poor farmer to quit eating meat when that might well be one of the few things that keeps him alive... so...
About the bull fights... and the treatment of cattle... Well, I think the main difference here is the the bull fights actually exist for one purpose alone: to entertain people. I think that THAT is what makes them so utterly revolting. That people would actually go there and love watching actual animals being slaughtered in that kind of way.
It's torture, yes - just like keeping cattle is in many places... but it's not just torture... it's a crowd of people LOVING it. People cheering and jumping with joy over a creature being scewered and massacred. That's what makes me sick when I think about bullfighting.
I ramble... sorry. And please, the thing about vegetables and vegetarians, it's not intended as a slap in the face for meat eaters - I can see why you DO eat meat. And it's your choice. |

hmmm, you make a good point, enayla.
however, i can think of many people whos world WOULD go under if they didnt eat meat :P
but consider this - society has been eating meat for a very long time now, and we havent seen any real deficiencies in the human digestive system because of it. Now, if you are vegetarian because you are protesting, or because you cant stand the sight of it, or for any other reasonable reason, then thats cool. But i have met people who are vegetarian just cos its trendy, or the only reason that they offer is 'umm, meats bad m'kay' and i just cant seem to grasp why they do it.
Yes, you can obtain many of your nutritional needs through sources other than meat. But why? Why bother hunting down all different vegetables just to track down that elusive vitamin when it is sitting in front of you, ensconsed within a choice cut of meat?
sorry if i coming off as a bit anti-vegetarian/vegan - im not trying to. Its just sometimes i wonder why vegetarians go to the trouble.
you are all free to enlighten me on this one |

Well... I have a million different reasons to why I'm a vegetarian. I haven't eaten meat since I was ten years old. I'm not going into the reasons, though... I feel no need to defend myself.
As for thinking that all the vegetarians are morons... I can't agree with that way of thinking. I have no respect for the trend-vegetarians, but I do not hate them more than goths, pop-teens, skaters, or any kind of subculture. They feel a need to belong - and if they feel they belong more because they eat a certain kind of food, or cut their hair a certain way, or behave in a certain way - it's still about the same thing. They're young - or insecure - and they need somewhere to put their trust and their confidence. Nothing to hate in that. I'd rather see them go vegetarian than fascist. |

mmmmmm........vegetarians, yummmm....
*dribbles*
*ahem* anyways, no hate for the subcultures over here (except maybe wiggaz and homeyz :\ ), just a odd fascination with their lack of purpose.
they'll grow out of it, and become good little meat-eaters.
hooray for meat! *cheers* |

The bull planted his horn between his ass and his genitals.....then pulled up....tearing pretty much everything off.
