I'm having trouble seeing what is not good about it, that is why I'm asking. Maybe I'm just blind to what may be wrong with it because I'm looking at the technique and overall artistic ability and not at whatever it is that might be bothering you. Is it the lighting or composition? |

I'm pretty happy with the lighting actually... I'm happy with the facial features and textures overall... there is just something about it that bugs me. I can't really describe what it is. Other people have told me its a great piece but I can't see it.

Well,
I think something is odd with the perspective considerung the hand, its not easy to say what...it just hit me at the first look, mayby I'm missing some kind of connection from the hand to the body, but it could be me. All in all a great piece, no question about that |

Ok don't hurt me.
The expression is GREAT! Abit emotionless though.
*The left eye is off. To little detail is my guess.
*The jewelry going across her forehead is just wrong. It should 'straighten' out somemore going from left to right and probably disappear more abruptly. Perhaps move it up slightly on the forehead?
*But what really bugs me is the nose/right combination. The nose is way to uniform and the eye seems to far to the right.
*You may want to darken some of the shadows too. |

A little suggestion. If you think something is weird with the pic, use your thumb to cover certain parts of the pic, and then look around and see if that's what is bugging you. It's usefull for when you can't quite get your finger (no pun intended) on what's wrong.
In this case, I'd say the nose, and (her right) eye doesn't seem to be looking where her other eye is looking. Other wise it's excellent. |

Looks awesome, to the max! hehe
My only minor suggestion has to do with cropping. I think the composition works a little better if you crop the bottom about half way through the feathers and the top down about an inch or two just below her hairline.

jezebel : the lady is holding like, uh, like a ball of magical* light(?) in her hand, but she's got this expression on her face which is like : "oh, nothing on tv tonight"
she just doesnt seem to care about the light in her hand, and if she doesnt care then it isnt important? and if its not important, why does it take up half the image? |

Looking at it in thumbnail view can help spot things that aren't apparent. I think lunatique also mentioned flipping and looking at a pic in greyscale.
I agree with the comments about hand's perspective and cropping. My impression is her shoulders are too small and made the whole pic a little cramped. and the magic light effect is too bright. It looks over-exposed and eats out many colour and details. also because the white area is so large the pic lost it's clear focus.
but I gotta say, love the fur, real gorgeous job on the details. |

Just a few crits.. I really like the composition.. but you are right there is somethin that looks off.. I think some people mentioned the jewelry and her hand.. perspective.. I was also gonna say her forehead looks awkward.. like she has a dent in it or its flat... I dunno.. looks strange.. to me.. could be my monitor.
But thats about it...
One question did you do this in photoshop or Painter? |

Try flipping it horizonatlly and checking it out that way - often shows you things you wouldn't normally see. Also, put it away for a week or so and then come back to it.
But it looks pretty good to me. |

Even with the hand as far back as it is, it is too small. |

Well... maybe its better without the hand? That seems to be the biggest problem with everyone, it throws the composition off a bit and because of the brightess its hard to grasp the depth I'm trying to portray. I flipped the canvas many times while doing this piece but honestly I didn't notice all the anatomy problems that everyone mentioned - I thought it looked alright myself. What is it specifically that's causing the problems? Not that I'll work on this again, hehe... maybe in a few weeks. Definitely not right now. *mutters* Very tired of this picture.

I simply had to register an account so that I could post this message. Jezebel, you've created a great image. Your crop kills the entire feel of the original. The anatomy is fine.. if everything is intended. Someone doesn't have to have a masive nasal bone protruding from their face to have an interesting nose. I think the character seems very calm, pure, delicate, focused, and packs a magical punch. If this is what you have intended, you've done a wonderful job. I think that you bash yourself more than you or anyone else feels you deserve. If you feel you've screwed up, relax and enjoy the learning experience. Art is fun. Shouldn't make you want to chop off your leg.
Again, nice work. Look forward to seeing more of it. |

That seems to be quite common for most pieces :-) The 1st one gives a strong feeling that the girl is very angry with something. The second one is going to be more calm :-) Anyway that looks great. |

the cropping was my first reaction too. but then you wonder what she's about to "throw" at you. the hand may make it interesting. |

you stinkor! I was expecting something amateur and blowy from your title but this is all pro. man you're going to have the beginners jumping off bridges if you think this is bad. is a pretty pic, don't be mad at it. not being able to always capture exactly what's in your head is part of the game |

I think the face could use some more form - right now it's a bit bland and single color imo. Also the eyes look screwed - like they're rotated to the wrong direction a little - also compare the direction of the mouth to the eyes and you'll see they don't quite match (and the mouth is a bit too much to the right in the pic). But please don't get me wrong, I just love your art, this one just feels a bit unfinished at the moment. Change the face a bit and add some more color (other than just the monotony brownish hues) and it'll be on par with your best works. |

I would keep the hand and add some more of her and some background to it. Perhaps tone down the highlights from the flare and add some shadow. Also.. try removing some of he glow from the flare.. making it more distinct.. or turn it in to a fire/lightball
Sending you a pic(email) with som crap all over it |

Oh my god! Your stuff keeps getting better and better!
Good idea to recompose without the hand but a fantastic image in it's own right! Well done. I like the jewelry and fur, nice detail. |

it looks nice...With a few changes it'd probably look great even.
The eyes appear to be looking in separate directions and I have an impression that the top of her head is a lot smaller (thinner) than the face. The forehead seems quite big and rounded especially on the left side.
Did you try flipping it horizontally?
It's just a game...err painting...don't get too worked up about it |
