absolutly haughting, the eyes are amazing, the hair still looks a bit flat(blurry?) other than that i love the detail you brought out of the collar, the slightly open mouth is also a very nice touch, adds that certain something, caught unaware kind of |

Very nice...
I really enjoy the difference in edges you employ about the piece. For example, the hard edges on the headpiece, as well as the hard yet flowing edges along the lace. These two hard edges serve as a sort of frame for the subject matter. Really nice there.
A few critiques, if I may?
- The hair near the shoulders, rather than a body, seems quite clumpy. I think you may have been going for a less refined, painterly look, but using broad strokes for pieces of hair, rather than the body, makes it look quite stringy and unwashed.
-The center of the collarbones is a bit off from the center of the rest of the figure--I don't really mind it, as not a single person is "ideal" - but, if you are a Loomis-follower-guy (or gal?) you may want to fix that ;]
- The shadows of the neck (along the sides) makes it seem as if the hair is not actually covering it. The shadow is simply too diffuse, and you have a darkening of the hair only at the edges. This makes it look as if the neck is that curved. You could add a few highlights along the hair by the edge, while keeping the value along the far edge of the neck low to increase contrast and show depth.
Overall, very nice, I like it a lot. Nice progression. =] |

I really admire all the pre-planning that you did for this piece. Very creative idea and I think it really shows in the final piece. She looks very young but feels quite a bit older (and powerful?). Hard to explain but I like it a lot.

JD Leon- Actually, I'm going for the soft, ethereal look, so it's blurry on purpose. |

This is the best thing I have ever seen from you. Although I might have missed a lot since I am fairly new here.
I really like how you were able to keep the soft ethereal look while finishing it. When you posted this in your non finished paintings thread it immediately stood out. It speaks..if you know what I mean.
If I were to name anything that could improve it would be the hair. It's kind of the weak spot. Its flat looking on top, the hairline is kind of uniform looking and too opaque and the bottom hair looks like it hasn't been washed for while.
But well..the hair is not where the eye is drawn now is it? |

Great work dude.
Leave it as it is.
I like it this way, it has a very dreamy look/quality to it. I wouldn't change a thing.
Take it easy,

Hmmm. That's the second time someone mentioned unwashed hair. The problem is, I did a version with shinier hair, and it kinda destroyed the ethereal feel. I don't know why that is. All the attempts I've made to add more sharpness/detail ended up destroying the ethereal feel.
Grrrr!!! I wish I knew why. |

I think she looks beautiful the way she is, just add some more hair (not detail) on the lower part, it looks weird other than that its simply.. beautiful

Bump- Actually, I feel that way about all of the female characters I create. I started to feel that way when I had my first creator owned comic series published. Cyprian is my oldest daughter.
Gimbal8- your monitor is correct. I made her clavicle area very pale because the skin there is really thin, and on a fair skined person, you could see lots of colder colors(and almost the veins). But, I could've overdone it. Someone else thinks I pushed it too far?
jr- Don't chew, just nibble. |

All that hard work certainly paid off. She's captivating.
My monitor here at work is probably not the best to judge this with, but her clavicles(sp)lack color in the shadows. It kinda makes her skin look dead-ish compared to the living look of the skin on her face. |

Sorry dude. |

This is a beautiful painting friend. I have a suggestion not a critique. As said before in a previous reply about some light on her hair, a little brighter up there and the lips would be my suggestion to you.
I don't like messing with anyone's art but to properly convey my messege, here's a lil paint over. Or should I call it a gloss over.

SplitSoul-
Mr. Heiesuke Oda- Hey, nice! I ought to give that a try. The first time I tried to add highlights to her hair, it looked funny to me. Maybe I'll make a second attempt. |

Great work, Lunatique. I just finished a painting that's a lot like this. I like the strands of hair around her neck. I know you were going for that soft look, but some stronger edges here and there would be nice. But then again I'm an edge whore, so what do I know? |

Really nice pic... as many have already said: she has great age-old feel and dreamlike quality.
I do not dare to say that there is something actually wrong, but just an idea: Being rather realistic pic, perhaps her neck is a tad too bottle-like like in, say, some anime-style... I mean it's narrowing down all the way up being very narrow in the top and starting from the shoulders with ease curve... Admittedly this can be a style thing, but just interested if you have tried to give it clearer shoulder-neck-head division (too clear might make her look 'hard' tho, I know)
I saw the one w/o the necklace and this thing was more apparent in that version...
here the necklace already gives the neck some stucture, so I would not worry about it too much...

i'm really in love with the soft style you went with .. and the reasons for it. i will add 2 crits (although totally unnecessary because i love the painting). first, the eyes are quite different in shape, but it really isnt too obvious at all (a bit to me, but i doubt most viewers would notice). it might also add a lot to the natural look you were trying to achieve. the second crit, which i think is way more important, is the way you finished the cuts\designs on her dress. it's halfassed, for lack of a better term, and i think some extra care in that area would add a lot to the image (because i think it is the only halfassed part of the image left). but again, fuckin' beautiful. |
