I posted this in the knight thread, but I wanted to get some actual comments on it.
It took me 1-2 hours in pshop no ref.
Crits & comments welcome. |

it's good, but definitely too blurry for my liking - I mean the face - the rest is not that important. |

The face looks like it's meant to be the center of attention so it's best to have it lit enough for all the important features to be visible.
Nice rendering of the plate armour and chain-mail, though. |

Man that gaze is spooky as hell. Nice work. The blur on the face makes it feel unnaturally close which works for it.

Thanks Flex. I tried workin the face so it was sharper, but it just wasnt workin for me. I'm pleased with this result.
Highfive- I agree with your comment about the face, but the light source is behinf the figure so I cant lighten his face too much. |

Rick, I agree with Flexible Elf that the gaze on your character is pretty darn mean!
If I was painting this image, though, I'd be really careful to construct the jaw, especially the teeth, so that the front four are in a row across the face, while the rest curve back until the molars are almost in a front-to-back alignment. Also, I couldn't help wanting a more defined (dual) light source. Just my opinion though.
If you're interested, here's my repaint:
also check out this which I posted in the knights thread after seeing yours:
...and after sourcing some "reference" (in fact, it's a kind of self-portrait!).
Cheers, A.
