This is the first painting I did with my wacom. I posted it a few weeks ago, but geocities would not show it. I'm trying the .txt extention trick now, hopefully it works.

I did this with a photo reference and added a background myself. I made it have a short depth of field because there is so much detail in the eagle. I didn't want to have a focused background pull attention away from the bird. It is all photoshop, with no tracing, just a lot of work.Let me know what you think.

Here is a link with comparison next to the reference. http://www.geocities.com/srpntmage/

bump!? Ok let me rephrase the tile of this thread ------> First wacom painting, crits + comments needed badly so I know if I am doing this right or not!

Come on guys show a fellow designer/artist some love/hate here. These forums are great! Only place in the world people with this certain kind of artistic talent are gathered together (If you think about it it's kind of scary.). You all inspired and taught me to do this kind of thing. Let me know what I should do differently or what you like.

While I'm on the subject of art, why don't we try to get a colaborative piece going. we could pick a theme or idea, and pass it around. We could each do a section of it and than e-mail it to the next person involved. The only thing stoping us would be file size. Could be kind of interesting, I think. I will post another thread in the discussion forum if you have any ideas. This may have been tried before, and I may have missed it, but sounds like an interesting experiment to me.

Let the group know if your interested. And give me some feedback on the above artwork, your opinions are will always be apreciated.

Bet that took you a while. While I prefer a painterly approach myself I can appreciate the time and effort you put into this tightly rendered peice

Yup, it took quite a while : ) I am initially working on realistic, photo reference pictures to learn the capabilities of the new tablet. I never new an eagle has that many different types of feathers on it's head. It was a learning experience trying to recreate all the different textures of feathers realisticly. I am working on a photo ref of Liv Tyler (yum!) right now. I am trying to learn the techniques involved with creating believable and smooth flesh tones with a wacom. Comming along pretty well, maybe I'll post it in the WIP forum. Thanks for the comment.

OK OK OK ....

Your work is superb ...!!
You are definately doing it the right way, but surely you must know that already from looking at your results ... rite ... ??

I have only a few things to report that are just nitpicking for sure, but you may want to have a look at it anyway. Let me write and point on top of your picture ...

If you fix up those things, your painting will end up looking BETTER than the original.

Hey, thanks for the feedback! I had a hard time with some of the feathers on the back and bottom of the bird. I noticed the third eye also, lol. Need to fix that. Your comments were extremely helpful and I am going to try to fix some of the problems you mentioned. Thanks again

Hiya serpentmagey.. an excellent eagle rendering.. even with all those imperfections that hawkone pointed out. Just wondering though.. how long did this pieace take u? It looks like u put in an insane ammount of details to it. It kind of reminds me of fleabrain's meticulous detailing.

As for criting this piece, this is out of my league.. G PRO? where are u?
