Hey guys and gals. Just posting these to see if I could get a few comments. I'm actually very, very happy with how these guys turned out. I know abstract stuff is looked down upon here, and normally I never do abstract--but these sketches really allowed me to free myself from constraints of rules/etc. I don't know. It was relaxing. Somewhat inspired by The Divine Comedy... here goes nothing. These are just four of the twelve I did the other night (oils--sorry for the bad quality of scans). I'm going to continue to pursue this style, at least at a personal level.

first two I really like. Those two and the first one in particular I wouldn't consider abstract. I REALLY like them nice dark mood, sketchy style *but the bottom two I am less intrigued by. I don't personally get much feeling out of them and they seem quite a bit less thought out.*
I know you didn't ask for opinions or crits so disregard what is inside the stars if it was inappropriate.
Good work

I think abstract painting is great!
I find it relaxing when painting object.
I like the second painting.
I'd suggest working with the texture of the canvas more, color composition and eye flow.
Have a nice day ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Don't know what it is (i can see several possible images within it), - but i like the third one best - it seems to have the most movement. (to me at least) |

Thanks for the responses =]
xXxPZxXx: Thanks for the critical stuff (in between the stars). Actually quite helpful in seeing another opinion. I agree--thought wasn't a major issue in any of these. It was simply getting shapes and feeling down as quickly and efficiently as possible. Glad you found some of it appealing. =]
Neo-MatrixX: Yeah, color composition is one of my major weaknesses. That's why I went with generally monochromatic sketches. I'm working on cool/warm theories right now--I'm struggling a bit =] Hopefully I'll find my bearing though. Oh, and texture of canvas wasn't really an option here. These were done on 8.5x11" xerox sheets =]
Bump: Thanks!
Satan: Yeah, I enjoy that one a lot too, simply because of the movement. It's actually supposed to be two people dancing, with the right having a long tuxedo. I tried to show that--glad you like it =]
Any other opinions/slaughtering critiques would be very helpful. I'm wondering if I should further this investigation into abstract forms and movement, or stay with realism. Thanks all =] |
