Hey, managed to finish a piece I have been working on for a while and would love to hear any C&C. Also, can you name the artist that influenced this pic? It should be very simple. Oh, and if you are about to say Dali, well, your wrong
Anyway, I call this one "The Propulsion Of Density".
Let me know what you think, and by all means, post any Surrealistic stuff you have. I'd love to see it
Later! |

Glad you like it, but this is a finished piece. It is supposed to be sparce, and even the "dead" space has meaning. I tried to paint this just as the inspiring artist painted most of his works, which is basically letting yourself go and letting it just happen. That's not to say I started with no concept in mind, but rather let the painting develop on it's own while maintaining the ability to say something. Granted, Surrealism may not say much to many people, but hey, at least it says something to me
Anyways, keep the comments coming!

can't figure out the artist, but i swear i've seen something like that before...although what surrealism is about(to me) is illustrating things that you can't see in normal life and all, so it will always look different from any other artwork...uhh yeah. and i like the slipper thingee on the far left ..the other thingys seem to hover a bit, dont blend well in with the environment, maybe too hard shadows(but that could be the way you wanted it too..). still i like it, it's different ![](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

Seas... Thanks for the comments. Yeah, the hard shadows are a part of the "mistery artist's" style. Almost all of his (later) works incorporated them. Something to do with having a solid connection to the material plane. He also used distorted perspectives (or mix-matched), and several different techniques including Graffito (sp?), or scratching lines/patterns into the paint with a sharp tool such as a pallette knife. I tried recreating that to some degree within photoshop as well.
As far as who he is, here's a hint or two:
He died in 1955 from a brain hemorrhage, was part of the Surrealist Group's inner circle (even though he was one of the least known), and was known to eat spiders.

Tanguy? I had no idea he was known to eat spiders, heh.
Great painting, that's the first time I've seen that style attempted in Photoshop. |

Well, that didn't take long... maybe I should have picked a more obscure artist
Thanks for the comment! I really enjoyed doing a Tanguy-ish piece, and will probably nurture that some more ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |
