Hello, I've spent the last week doing this pic in my spare time. I really loved the SNES Metroid game and I hope the upcoming Gamecube game will be just as good.

Any crits or comments welcome. I don't plan or working on this anymore, but crits will be helpful for future images.

EDIT: Sorry people, I forgot to mention that I didn't actually draw Samus's exact suit because I didn't have any reference so I just made up parts. It was more fun this way anyway.

doesnt really look like her, I agree. Consider your proportions, exxagerate, but dont change her gender. Also look at your foreshortening problem in the hand. think of your drawing a little more in 3d in relation to the viewer/camera. keep working, could be a really nice piece.

Hi all, thanks for your comments.

swampbug: Thanks, I was thinking about putting in textures, but I didn't really know how and what type since the armour is supposed to be shiny and smooth. But you're right, I will definetely try to use them more.

Duncan: Thanks, I never really noticed the hand, probably because I've been looking at the pic way too long!

Ken: Thank you, I forgot to mention that the image is inspired by the Metroid Universe but not actually Samus since I didn't have any reference of her. Also I wanted to test myself in doing my own design.

powerchild: Thank you, I definetely need to work on my foreshortening. I think I exaggerated too much on the 'bulk factor'.

The visor somehow gives me the impression that he/she is a male? Maybe a bunch of other metroid hunters like Samus, but male.

I think you should give more shading to the arms and legs. Right now they seem flat. Although they have shadow and so forth, there isn't the correct object shading to it. Looks flat to me.

I like the designs on the shoulder pads. Great stuff.

wow this is awesome Jason

no idea hwat the hell the game is but it looks cool..

one crit i have is that his upper body seems rather 2d? it seems like you need more depth in the shading...

This pic is rendered really well and I dig your signature

great work..

can't wait for more.

It's the russian, male counter-part to Samus it seems. Nice work.

10ten: Thanks!

Darkstalker: Thanks again for the reply. I was tossing up between including the smoke or taking it out completely. Lucky I put it in!

Kuren: I read a bit about the Metroid story and Samus graduated from a space police academy (or something similar to that), eventually breaking away in pursuit of her own adventures. So there must be lots of other bounty hunters out there like her, your theory is spot on!
As for your crit, you're totally right. I was having problems with shading the pic as I wanted to try to keep as much detail without obscuring them in shadows. Thus the flatness. It's a bad habit I have.

Freddio: Thanks Hugh, I agree with the depth thing, but like I said before I wanted to keep detail in. I'm just going to have to practice more.

Cyberartist: Thankyou!

Great paintover! I really like the intensity of the red. When painting my pics I'm always worried about using *too* much contrast and highlights because I'm afraid it'll come off as if I'm just abusing the dodge tool. I'm trying to be a bit more subtle while drawing the attention of the viewer in at the same time.
But thanks, I really dig that red light.
