This is superb, you even modelled the pilot inside the cockpit. I was trying to model a 747 in max but was unsuccesfull. Still need a lot more pratcice.
What is the technique you used most in this model - lofting, nurbs (perhaps not at all), individual vertices manipulation? I'm asking because I myself have difficulty determining which technique is best for specific objects. |

The way you've modelled is excellent - particularly the effecient use of polygons. The detail in the cockpit and the painted-on markings are good as well.
As far as the camera matching goes, take another look at the third picture. The top of the passenger jet's wings is in a deep blue shadow, but the F15's below don't have this same shadow falling across their wings from the tail-fins. Does the renderer you use allow you to cast shadows?
EDIT: I can see that it does in the other pics. You're using 3D Studio Max, obviously.

the f15's a double seater, and the pilot would be much smaller in there |

New version...
Also updated the canyon shot with a more red light.
NullTygre - Only the F-15B, F-15D and the new F-15E Strike Eagle are 2 seaters. This is an F-15C. The pilot looks about right to me, I modelled it from the blueprints.

That last one makes a good wallpaper, I myself am a F-18 fan, but this kicks arse. How long with working in 3DSmax4 before you get this good? And whats better MAYA or MAX? |

Nice model!
A huge problem with the bottom one is the black shadow. There will NEVER be a time when the sun is up, and the object is above the clouds where there is totally NO light. Light reflects nicely off clouds (b/c of their water composition).
Maybe try using a HDIR plugin or renderer to get a few steps closed to realism; because right now it looks highly un-realistic. |

Swany - FA-18s are cool too - might get round to making one of them. I've been using MAX since version 1 came out, about 5 years ago... I think. I don't use Maya - but people who are familliar with both Max and Maya would probably say Maya is better - however it's very expensive, and Max is certainly good enough for my needs.
GPoodle - I tried using Brazil to render these, but I wasn't satisfied with the way it refracted the cockpit, so I went back to the normal scanline renderer and used lots of fill lights to try to boost up the scenes to look like daylight. I agree the shadows in that last one probably aren't very realistic, but I kept them because I think the darkness adds to the overall composition and sense of movement.
Thanks for the comments everyone. |

I'll just add that I agree with what's already been said, the model is excellent, though the lighting doesn't match very well at all. |

NIce modeling work! I would consider dirtying up your textures a little more and actually bringing up some detail in them, then render seperately your model vs sky. maybe apply some motion blur on the back third or so, recompose and see how that looks. I really like your resubmission, the dark does add to depth, shadows can be a problem for most out of the box renderers. maybe consider a shadow pass rendering seperatley and composite later. |
