Hi
I just thought I would share a quick pic with you. Its abstract, and doesn't really have any meaning.
Design to music! what genre?
I would just like some comments, anything at all. I know it isn't very complex, and there's not a lot too see but... mainly I just want to know if theres anything wrong with the compostion? I know there is a lot of weight on the left side, but I am hoping the larger, but softer, shape on the right will counter balance.
I plan on doing a lot more pics like this, just to loosen up my design skills, and just have fun while listening to music. |

I like it a lot! I guess it's... ehm... jungle. Or looking at the red, yellow and green, maybe it's dancehall.
The composition is okay, really.
This painting to music thing is often used by designers to counterattack anecdotism or figurative designing. It helps them avoid linear thinking, and I have applied this technique successfully too.
You're right saying this is a tool to loosen up.
I couldn't critique this if I wanted to. |

Thx guys,
jome: you were pretty well right about the genre, it is techno sort of stuff. I'm glad the composition works for you, I was only 50% sure about it.
What did you mean by 'anecdotism or figurative designing. It helps them avoid linear thinking...'?
Can you exaplin those terms a bit more, I sorta get it but I would like to know more.
KrayZ: Glad you liked it. I know it is a bit 'trendy' but it's nice to hear that its still appealing.
I'm going to do a whole series of these, this one is A4 at 300dpi, so I can print it out with good quality and so that I get into the habit of designing for print quality and I learn to make it that way. Too often you make something cool in 72dpi, but what use is that for print? It's a different world at 300dpi, photo's have to be resized and brushes look tiny!
My ideas are mostly inspired by the infinity series atDigital Vision, and by the book 'New Masters of Photoshop' where Michael Cina mentions that designing to music is fun and good for learning.
I'll update this thread in a couple of weeks, I go on holiday this week so cya round. |

I'm not to attracted to certain forms of abstraction, but I like this. The texturing and the colors are appealing and the blocky words remind me of a lot of old Atari 2600 cartridge covers.... many of which I'm very fond of.
