Here is a little painting I did in Photoshop of "The Big Guy." He seems a bit sad to me. I started off with just lines and not knowing what I was going to paint. Well, if you would like to see the steps I took in painting him then go here:

swampbug-- that comment about Craig is unnecessary. These amazing artists all respect each other, and I think they'd want you to as well. |

Hi Greg,
Good to see you here! I see it took 5 minutes for you to master the digital tools. I think this is a good example of traditional skills transferring to digital easily, but not vice versa.
I hope you are getting to do more stuff besides landmark. You doing that is like shooting a sparrow with a bazooka. You are capable of SO much more, IMHO.
I really look forward to seeing what you do in the future.
see you later
swampbug, consider it done! |

Good job, swampbug! You really have a way with words. You're as graceful with your words as a sumo wrestler doing ballet.
Greg thanks very, very much for making this tutorial. I echo the sentiments of others in that it helped me a LOT! Your work continues to blow me away. I'm sure I speak for most at Sijun when I say we really appreciate the effort. Now if only we can cut down on the moronic comments from some members you might just stick around... |

Now now guys, Swamp was just excited to have another incredible artist on the forum. With Don, Craig, and Greg posting it's a pretty nice time here at Sijun. Awesome doodle Greg, looks like you had some fun with this! |

thenetbox- sorry for all the pop-ups. I'm not sure why it did that. I'll look into the problem.
Mr. Lonely- Thanks! that's what we are here for, to learn from each other.
swampbug- Oh Geez I wish you never said that. I appreciate your enthusiasm and I know you meant well, but remember we are all just artists. THIS IS NOT A COMPETITION. Let's make Sijun a fun place fo learning and inspiration.
Icannon- Thank you.
Lunatique- Amen to that.
The Magic Pen- Thank you too. Maybe we need some projects here that would improve our skill of free form painting.
Craig- Sorry about the comment up there. Thanks much for your words. Yes, as a matter of fact I'm doing a job for Landmark right now. I transferred over to digital paint instead of Cel-Vinyl. This has opened up my curiosity to other possible fields. Just got to keep moving forward.
snart-Thanks. I'll stay if you stay.
Anthony- Oh yes! this stuff is fun to do. |

Wow...I didnt mean any insult. Spooges work speaks for itself. I had no idea you guys would take this so seriously. Lighten up. Thanks anthony for backin me up. Nice to see someone who knows the difference between having a little "fun" and being dead cold serious.
If I made a big long paragraph about how Pro compares to spooge.. or something long winded and crazy, I'd understand you're comments. I said 1 sentence, and you jump on me like a bed at a birthday party.
Little harsh there SNARF ?!... watch some of your sumo words yourself! :P
I need to be spanked... what can I say.

Like the impressionistic approach, but i do think that you could leave the papertexture out. Its much better IMHO. Exceptional work on your site! |

Beautiful work you've got there, Pro... very nice indeed. Thanks for the great step-by-step, too. Being able to see someone's technique in that way is priceless to beginners like myself. Consider yourself bookmarked! >8) |

Er... I'm sure it would be a nice tutorial if I could actually read it.
You see, when I click on the picture the link pops up in a new window. That's fine --- it's a pet peeve of mine, but I know some people like it. The big problem is that it has no scroll-bar.
I usually get on the internet with my laptop, which means I'm stuck at 800x600. I can't see the whole window, and since there is no scroll bar, I can't scroll down to read your text. If I monkey around with my toolbars I can just barely see the whole thing and reach the links.
Please remember that some of us are stuck on laptops or old computers. If I was using 600x480, I wouldn't be able to read the tutorial at all.
I would suggest that you put in a scroll-bar or at least allow us to right click and open in a new, regular window. Small screen people would be very grateful.
Not all of us have 30" screens and T1 connections, even though the lovely talented folk here at sijun tend to forget that. |

Kaete sorry about that. Try it again I added the scroll bar. Be easy on me this web site stuff is not my specialty. Any constructive criticism is welcome. Thanks.

Very nice...he does look very sad.
I, personally, prefer tutorials/step-by-step paint-throughs (?) when they're all made up of one single web-page.
That way I can save it all to disk for future reference (in case of a server meltdown or something).
Thank you Greg. |
