I saw the sketch a while ago.
Very nice technical quality, ofcourse, but I have some points of critisism. (As usual the crit is extra harsh when the piece is this well done )

The horses "face" is looking odd, I think the eyes are wrong in some way. Too small I believe.
And the rider doesn't seem to ride on the horse as he seems too relaxed, considering the horse is riding at pace (sorry, I don't know the word).

So, as said, I believe the horse and the rider are not connected properly. The rider is too relaxed or the horse is too wild...

That what I can squeeze out of this one.

The lighting in this piece gives it a wonderful feel. She does appear to be disconnected from the steed and appears to be sitting too far back to boot (that hurts at a trot). She also looks a little manly (not that there's anything wrong with that), with a strong chin and nasalis (I looked it up, the muscles coming off the nose).
The Celtic design doesn't follow the banner (it looks like it's getting ready to slide off).
Once again, this looks great, and I feel foolish busting on something beyond my skill level.

Let me first say that I really like this image. I admire the tight, clean look you're always able to get out of your drawings.

Now the critique - I agree with Sukhoi about the horse/rider relationship. The pose you have the horse makes me think speed.. that it's running, or is going at some sort of pace. The rider, on the other hand, looks too relaxed to be on that horse. His posture is straight, his left arm is straight, and the reigns are loose, as if the horse were standing still. His hair doesn't really appear to be moving either. So you see how these two look strange being in the same picture together.

The torso of the horse is what first caught my attention. It looks very 'thick' to me.. in proportion to the rest of the horse.. it looks like two different-sized horses combined.


if that helps at all. I know your horse is much more powerful and fantasy-like than the one in the pic, but it feels too exaggerated in the torso

Also one last minor point (sorry for the long critique. I really liked looking at this piece, and it's so well rendered that the little flaws really stood out to me):

His elbow guard/pad on his left arm is facing right at us. Try twisting your arm to make your albow face that far forward.. it's not very comfortable and his hand couldn't be in that position then.

I can't think of much that's really wrong, but there are some things that would help it out. I think would be to add a bit o shadow in the background, on the ground to bring out the horsie a little more. The horsie-rider's armor shoud be shinier, I think.. it's often nice to have some definite variation in texture. Makes things more realistic. I really like the proportions of the horse.. I don't know what the breed is, but looks like one of those muscular show horses that[at least in movies and paintings] were war horses for kings in the middle ages.

Hey guys....
Most of you have valid points...but dont you guys see that its a dude with long hair? Its supposed to be a guy with long hair. At least that is what I see (look at the breast plate armor...if its a chick, she must be a strong 12 year old girl with a flat but muscular chest like that one)

And of course, look at the manly face (as said so before by a few)

Quit calling him she when critiquing...its bugging me out.

Death, change the hair style...its what is giving it that female "look". Dont know to many wariors that get flyback and use that much conditioner. His hair looks like he belongs in queensryche(the "band" not for real) or something

Good job though. Great rendering as usual!!! (I just woundnt call this one of your stronger pieces)

This one is new, ive been working on it too long and its burning me out. I'm still not completely satisfied with it but maybe if I take a break for a while I will find what's bugging me about it.

For all those who ask the 4th leg is coming. i'm happy with the torso of the horse on up but not below im bad with horse legs

Death, I am REALLY impressed by the surrounding ornaments. AMAZING detail on those. I myself am trying to get a feel for doing things like cornerpeices...very nice. What program do you do them in?

I think what may be throwing the balance off is the angle of the horse's collarbone (i know I know they don't have collarbones like us but if they did ^_~) It tilts the front legs as if the horse is turning to its right, but the rider is not leaning into the turn. The horse's tail also suggests running, whereas the banner and rider do not. I guess if the right front leg was planted, the image would make more sense.

Also b/c the rider's foot is more rendered than the horse's raised leg, it gives the illusion of the foot being in front of the leg, or pressing into it from above.

I hope I'm not sounding harsh! Like the others, I find it to be rendered very excellently!
